West Ham bid for Maksimovic

West Ham United have made an offer for Napoli defender Nikola Maksimovic, claim Sky Sport Italia, with Fulham also interested.

The 28-year-old centre-back is only under contract until June 2021 and has not agreed a new deal.

He has been on the market for several months and a proposal has now arrived from West Ham.

Negotiations are in progress and Napoli want around €15-20m for the Serbia international.

Fulham are also believed to be keeping an eye on Maksimovic after the deal with Sassuolo for Marlon seemingly collapsed.

Man City end Koulibaly pursuit

Manchester City have reportedly informed Napoli they are no longer interested in Kalidou Koulibaly after spending €53m plus Nicolas Otamendi on Ruben Dias.

The Senegal international had been Pep Guardiola’s number one target in defence for several years, but this summer was the closest they came to a deal.

Despite Napoli declaring they were open to a sale, Manchester City never reached the asking price of at least €75-80m.

PSG leapfrog Man City for Koulibaly

PSG are preparing to raise their bid for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and are now the favourites ahead of Manchester City, according to The Telegraph.

The online version of the English newspaper claims that Paris Saint-Germain are ready to offer up to €80m for the centre-back.

That would meet the original asking price and see him brought in as a replacement for Thiago Silva.

The 29-year-old Senegal international was placed on the market by President Aurelio De Laurentiis, as long as they received ‘the right price’ for his sale.

Koulibaly not pushing to leave Napoli

Kalidou Koulibaly is increasingly likely to remain at Napoli, as Manchester City and PSG will not raise their offers to meet the €70m asking price.

According to Calciomercato.com and Sportitalia, President Aurelio De Laurentiis has set the absolute minimum fee at €70m without bonuses.

That is proving to be beyond the expectations of Manchester City and PSG, who are instead turning towards other targets.

City are believed to have agreed personal terms with Jules Kounde, even though Sevilla so far rejected the offer.

Koulibaly could stay at Napoli

Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are reportedly far away from meeting Napoli patron Aurelio De Laurentiis’ demands and Kalidou Koulibaly could end up staying at the San Paolo.

La Repubblica claims the asking price for Koulibaly remains too high for PSG and Man City, and the centre-back has made himself available for coach Gennaro Gattuso.

The newspaper claims the €80m asking price will not be matched by either of the two giants.

Time running out for Koulibaly exit

If Manchester City or PSG don’t do a deal for Kalidou Koulibaly by this weekend, Napoli are expected to take the defender off the market.

The negotiations continue to drag on after months and appear to have hit another impasse.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester City are at most prepared to pay €70m, whereas the asking price is at least €75m.

Even with performance-related bonuses and add-ons, this is a difficult gap to bridge, largely because the two clubs are still not communicating directly with each other.

Losing Koulibaly would take Napoli backwards

Selling Kalidou Koulibaly would be a smart move financially for Napoli, but a devastating and unforced error on the sporting plane, argues Lee Bushe.

Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis spoke of his willingness to sell Kalidou Koulibaly this transfer window, stating that for the right price, another club was free to take him. That price is reported to be in the region of €75m, with Manchester City the forerunners for quite some time now.
