EDF: 'My Roma regrets'

Eusebio Di Francesco has revealed his biggest Roma regret, “accepting the departures of Radja Nainggolan and Kevin Strootman.”

Di Francesco led Roma to the Champions League semi-finals in his first season with the two experienced midfielders, but they were sold the following summer and the coach was sacked before the end of his second campaign.

“It was a great midfield, with great technical and mental qualities,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Strootman set for Roma return?

Kevin Strootman could make a sensational return to Roma just 12 months after his €25m sale to Olympique Marseille.

The 29-year-old midfielder made it clear on several occasions that he’d been told to find a new club last summer, not being part of new director of sport Monchi or Coach Eusebio Di Francesco’s plans.

He was sold to Marseille in August 2018 for €25m, but struggled to settle in and contributed one goal with five assists in 34 competitive games.

Strootman: 'Not forced out of Roma'

Kevin Strootman insists he was “not forced out of Roma, it was my decision to try a new experience” at Olympique Marseille.

The midfielder’s sudden departure in the final days of the transfer window, with no replacement, was one of the reasons why fans turned on director Monchi and President Jim Pallotta.

“A club can force you to leave even if you don’t want to go, but that is not what happened with me,” assured Strootman in L’Equipe.
