Roma's Dzeko to miss Samp

Edin Dzeko looks set to miss Roma’s next game against Sampdoria but could return for the clash with Milan on October 27.

Dzeko is currently recovering from a double facial fracture, and the striker’s surgeon has warned that he needs to be handled carefully.

With that in mind, Calciomercato.com expects him to miss Roma’s reunion with Claudio Ranieri at Samp this Sunday.

Better call Claudio

Claudio Ranieri is again called on to rescue a troubled team, replacing Eusebio Di Francesco for the second time in seven months, writes Kaustubh Pandey.

Every time Claudio Ranieri joins a new club, the most optimistic of fans cast glances at Leicester City’s miraculous Premier League win in 2016. Others could also look at how he sparked a revival at Roma last season once he replaced Eusebio di Francesco, who was left in an absolute mess after some poor recruitment by Monchi in the summer of 2018.

Now, he finds himself in a similar position and replacing the exact same Coach, but in a different venue and much earlier in the campaign.

Vialli: My conscience is clear

Gianluca Vialli says while he is ‘sorry’ his proposed Sampdoria takeover fell through, his conscience is ‘clear’ in a thinly-veiled dig at Massimo Ferrero.

Vialli’s consortium confirmed earlier in the week that they could not agree a price with Ferrero, and the former Blucerchiati striker expressed his disappointment at how things panned out.

“The reason is very simple, we didn’t agree a price with Ferrero,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Ranieri close to Sampdoria deal

Sampdoria’s meeting with Claudio Ranieri was reportedly very positive and he is close to agreeing a deal worth €1m plus bonuses.

It means for the second time in only a few months, Ranieri will be replacing Eusebio Di Francesco, having taken over as caretaker manager at Roma in March.

He was by no means first choice for Samp, who were turned down by Stefano Pioli and Gennaro Gattuso, while the club was unconvinced by Beppe Iachini and Gianni De Biasi.
