President Massimo Ferrero is in advanced negotiations to sell Sampdoria to a group of investors with Gianluca Vialli at the helm, it’s reported.

According to Sky Sport Italia among other sources, the talks are closer than ever to completion for €100m.

Both parties could even release a joint statement tomorrow confirming the existence of advanced negotiations.

A takeover would not be completed until after the transfer deadline on September 2, but the situation is progressing rapidly and believed to be closer than it has ever been.

Saint-Etienne push for Defrel

Saint-Etienne, Sampdoria and Sassuolo are the favourites for Roma striker Gregoire Defrel, with the Ligue 1 side surging forward.

The 28-year-old has just returned from a loan spell with Sampdoria, where he scored 12 goals in 39 competitive appearances.

He is expected to go out on another loan with option to buy and a return to Samp is certainly possible.

This is especially true because their new Coach is Eusebio Di Francesco, who Defrel already worked with at both Sassuolo and Roma.

Samp handed Maroni boost

Sampdoria have confirmed Gonzalo Maroni did not break his ankle but that the attacking midfielder needs more tests.

Maroni scored on his Samp debut last night, helping his new side beat Crotone 3-1 in the Coppa Italia.

However, the Argentine went off after an hour with a suspected ankle injury.

Tests since then have ruled out the possibility of a fracture, although more examinations are required.

The 20-year-old recently joined the Blucerchiati on loan with an option to buy from Boca Juniors.

Coppa: Samp comeback in Crotone

Sampdoria completed the comeback from an early goal to win 3-1 away to Crotone, with new buy Gonzalo Maroni immediately on target.

The Blucerchiati will face Cagliari in the Fourth Round of the Coppa Italia in December.

It was Crotone who took the surprise lead just eight minutes in when a long ball over the top allowed Salvatore Molina to spring the offside trap, chest it down and beat Emil Audero.

Fabio Quagliarella’s acrobatic attempt whistled wide, as did an Ahmad Benali free header from Molina’s cross.
