Govt open to fans in stadiums

Undersecretary for Health Alessandro Zampa confirms the Italian Government could let fans in by the end of this Serie A season. ‘We’ll evaluate the pandemic curve.’

The number of deaths and new COVID-19 cases are dropping steadily and Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte this evening held a press conference confirming the transition into Phase Three of the pandemic response.

With cinemas and theatres reopening soon with social distancing, clubs are asking why stadiums should not be given the same treatment.

Agents: 'Players can refuse after June 30'

The Presidents of the Agents’ Association warns that the issue of contracts has not been resolved in an expanded season. ‘Any player out of contract can refuse to play after June 30.’

As football was locked down for almost three months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2019-20 season won’t end until at least August.

This is a problem for players whose contracts expire on June 30, whether they are on loan or have already agreed to join another club after that date.

Dr. Gianni Nanni, coordinator of the Serie A medics, has claimed the League should ‘reopen the stadiums’ when football resumes.

Yesterday, the Undersecretary for the Ministry of Health Sandra Zampa revealed she would fight to help football resume with fans in the stands.

FIGC medic: 'Could cut COVID-19 quarantine'

A virologist and member of the FIGC medical commission confirms ‘the rule could change’ regarding a 14-day quarantine, as COVID-19 is ‘weaker’ in Italy now.

The medical protocol for Serie A’s resumption from June 20 had to include an automatic 14-day isolation period for the entire squad in case of a positive coronavirus test, not just the person who caught the disease.

There are the very real fears that with this rule in place, one positive test among players or staff could bring the entire tournament to a halt.

Sampdoria could bring Tissone back

Sampdoria could bring free agent Fernando Tissone back to Serie A after Edgar Barreto terminated his contract early.

The Blucerchiati are a man short in midfield, as Barreto left Samp after five years due to personal reasons a few weeks before his deal was set to expire.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, among the contenders to replace him is Tissone, who will turn 34 next month.

It would be a return to Marassi for the Argentine, because he already wore the Samp jersey from 2009 to 2013, albeit with some loan spells too.

Barreto: 'I didn't want to risk anything'

Edgar Barreto has revealed he didn’t want to ‘risk anything’ as he decided to leave Sampdoria, but the 35-year-old insisted he's not quitting football.

He left the Marassi after five years and after only having played twice in Serie A this term, the 35-year-old decided it was not worth going back to the dressing room.
