Madrid rejected for Milinkovic?

Gianluca Di Marzio claims Lazio did reject a significant bid from Real Madrid for midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic last summer.

Lazio chief Claudio Lotito drew ridicule earlier in the week for his boast that he turned down an offer of €160m for Milinkovic-Savic.

However, Di Marzio told Sky Sport Italia on Thursday evening that the President did knock back a ‘huge’ proposal from Madrid.

Lazio President Claudio Lotito has been fined €10,000 for insulting the referee, but the club avoids punishment for racist chants.

The incidents occurred during the Serie A draw against Torino on December 29.

At half-time, Lotito burst into the referee’s locker room and insulted the officials, earning him a warning and €10,000 fine.

However, there is no mention in the disciplinary commission’s report of the clearly audible racist chants aimed at Torino midfielder Soualiho Meite when he was sent off.

Lazio fans turn on Milinkovic

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is increasingly likely to leave Lazio after a string of poor performances and an offensive banner from local fans.

The Serbia international was the subject of massive offers over the summer, approaching the €120m asking price, from Manchester United.

With President Claudio Lotito claiming he had even rejected a proposal worth €40m cash plus three instalments of €40m each until 2021 from Milan, the pressure was on to justify this confidence.
