Giampaolo: 'No Milan short-cuts'

Marco Giampaolo is not concerned after Milan’s 0-0 draw with Serie C side Cesena. “I always said it’d take time, I am not looking for short-cuts.”

The Rossoneri had practically the same line-up as last season in their final friendly of the summer.

“Clearly we can’t be very sharp right now, but we took that into account,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Sourcing the Suso solution

Suso’s strengths and weaknesses as a winger could be just as crucial in a trequartista role for Milan, writes Elio Salerno.

Jesús Joaquín Fernández Sáenz de la Torre is a player who at times is as puzzling and dazzling as his flamboyant Spanish name. The attacker who we have all come to know simply as ‘Suso’ generates substantial debate between Milan fans.

Undoubtedly talented with a special left foot, the former Liverpool player is frustratingly inconsistent. In amongst his creative moments of magic, Suso is accused of being a peripheral figure in more games than a player with his quality should be.

'Milan must aim for Scudetto'

Lucas Paqueta has declared that Milan ‘must aim’ for the Scudetto, Marco Giampaolo is a ‘professor’ and whoever plays for the club is a ‘champion’.

Paqueta returns to Milan after a summer in which he helped Brazil to Copa America glory, and he wants to taste that winning feeling with the Rossoneri.

“The team have great players and achieved great results so far,” the midfielder told Sky Sport Italia.

“I’m very happy to be back wearing the Milan shirt,” the 21-year-old told Milan TV.

“We hope it’s a great year for all of us. I’m available to the Coach. I play wherever I’m needed and where I can do well.

Giampaolo advice for Milan pair

Marco Giampaolo gave Milan’s young talents Lucas Paqueta and Rafael Leao some advice. “Instinct is good, but you need to be orderly too.”

The Rossoneri earned a 2-0 victory in Kosovo last night against local side Feronikeli, with goals from Suso and Fabio Borini.

“It was a good run-out for the lads, although the tempo and quality of opposition was not what we’d been dealing with more recently,” the Coach told Milan TV.

Castillejo: 'Won't leave Milan'

Samu Castillejo has no intention of leaving Milan and “will not consider any offers,” according to his agent. “If he plays more, he’ll score 10 goals.”

The 24-year-old winger only joined from Villarreal last summer and contributed four goals with four assists in 40 competitive games, but might be pushed further down the pecking order by new Coach Marco Giampaolo’s 4-3-1-2 system.

Derby della Lanterna shines brighter

Genoa and Sampdoria are revamping this season with raised ambitions, explains Vijay Rahaman, but uncertainty in the boardroom.

The Marassi showdown between Genoa and Sampdoria is called the Derby della Lanterna after the lighthouse that shines bright over the port city. While the rivalries of Milan, Rome and Turin garner more attention, the one in Genoa has probably been most closely fought over the years and is perhaps seen as the most crucial fixture of the entire season for both sets of fans.

Milan: 'World-class' Suso not enough

Marco Giampaolo urged Milan to keep ‘world-class’ Suso, but his performance was not enough to prevent a penalties defeat to Manchester United.

Suso’s slick curler from outside the box was the pick of the goals in Cardiff as the International Champions Cup finale finished 2-2, but United went on to win 5-4 on penalties after Daniel Maldini missed the decisive spot-kick.

“We still lack attention to detail, but we’ll only acquire it with time,” Giampaolo said after the game.
