OFFICIAL: Giampaolo new Torino coach

Torino have officially announced Marco Giampaolo as their new coach ahead of the 2020-21 season.

Giampaolo, who turned 53 on August 2, has signed a two-year deal worth €1.5m with the Granata after having terminated his contractual ties to Milan this week.

“Torino Football Club are pleased to announce that we have entrusted the management of the first team to Mr. Marco Giampaolo,” the club wrote in a statement. “The coach has signed a two-year contract.

Cairo: 'We have hired a quality coach'

Torino President Urbano Cairo said he had ‘hired a quality coach’ after having reportedly signed a two-year contract with Marco Giampaolo.

SportItalia reports that Giampaolo left Cairo’s office in Milan with a two-year deal and an option for a third year in Turin.

Giampaolo is reportedly heading straight to Casa Milan to resolve the situation with the Rossoneri, who replaced the former Sampdoria coach with Stefano Pioli in October.

Report: Giampaolo one step from Torino

Torino have reportedly reached an agreement with Marco Giampaolo, who must now meet with Milan to terminate his contract with the Rossoneri.

Giampaolo was replaced by current Diavolo coach Stefano Pioli in October last year and Sky Sport Italia claims he has come to terms with the Granata to take over after Moreno Longo at the Grande Torino.

He will reportedly sign a two-year deal with the Granata, with an option for a further year.

Longo: 'My last Torino match'

Moreno Longo confirms this was his ‘last match’ on the Torino bench, as the club is in advanced talks with Marco Giampaolo.

Longo was brought in to replace Walter Mazzarri in February, but was not confirmed in the role after three wins, four draws and nine defeats.

“This was my last match at Torino,” Longo told Sky Sport Italia following a 1-1 draw at Bologna.

Torino practically confirm Giampaolo

Torino director Davide Vagnati essentially confirmed Marco Giampaolo has been chosen as their next coach. ‘We admire him very much.’

There were multiple reports this morning that Giampaolo agreed a two-year deal to replace Moreno Longo, although first he must terminate his contract with Milan.

Giampaolo chosen for Torino job

Marco Giampaolo is set to become the new Torino coach for next season, according to multiple sources, replacing Moreno Longo.

Tuttosport, Sky Sport Italia, Tuttomercatoweb and more all point to an agreement with Giampaolo, which will be finalised next week.

It’s expected to be a two-year contract, but first he has to terminate his existing deal with Milan.

Giampaolo turns 53 today and lasted just seven games on the Rossoneri bench before he was sacked on October 8.

Report: Di Francesco rejects Alaves

According to Sportitalia, Eusebio Di Francesco has turned down the Alaves job, as he has interest from Torino, Fiorentina and Cagliari.

The former Sampdoria, Roma and Sassuolo coach had been proposed a two-year deal in Spain, but transfer pundit Alfredo Pedullà maintains that after a couple of days to consider his options, Di Francesco rejected the offer.

He is eager to remain in Italy and there are plenty of alternatives here too.

It’s reported Torino, Fiorentina and Cagliari have all made approaches for the tactician.

Giampaolo leads Toro revolution?

Marco Giampaolo is Torino’s first choice to take over the reins next season, as part of a triple swoop with Malang Sarr and Sebastiano Esposito.

Sky Sport Italia reports Giampaolo has moved to the top of Toro’s managerial shortlist, with Moreno Longo set to make way despite leading the team to safety.

The 52-year-old remains out of work since leaving Milan last October and had been previously linked with the vacancy at Turkish side Fenerbahce.

Bennacer so valuable for Milan

Milan’s recent upsurge in form has succeeded in attracting the attention of many in Europe. The victory over Roberto De Zerbi’s men on Tuesday saw them stretch their unbeaten run to seven wins and two draws since the lockdown. So much has been said of the importance of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the goal-scoring form of Ante Rebic and rediscovered Franck Kessie. Yet once again Ismael Bennacer shone, and in a game which could have gone either way, the Algerian provided a huge amount of control to a Milan midfield that really needed it.
