Casiraghi: 'Gazza, Zeman and a goose'

Pierluigi Casiraghi reveals Paul Gascoigne’s prank on Zdenek Zeman with a goose, Gianluca Vialli’s coaching career and seeing himself in Andrea Belotti.

The former Lazio, Juventus and Chelsea forward looked back over his career with Sky Sport Italia, including an inevitable Gazza anecdote.

“Zeman always had this whistle that he really liked to use in training. One day, it disappeared after a session. After a while, a goose waddled past with the whistle around its neck, as Gascoigne had put it there.

Cremonese dreaming

As rumours emerge that Cremonese could be purchased by Massimo Moratti, Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall finds himself wallowing in nostalgia at the Stadio Giovanni Zini.

Troubled times often lead to daydreaming of better days. Fuel this with a suggestion by the media that this dream may one day become a reality and it sparks the synapses. This has been the case for me recently, following rumours in the press that ex-Inter President Massimo Moratti was interested in purchasing the Lombardy club Cremonese. This sent the mind racing back to the Cremonese sides of the past and especially those teams in the 1980s and 1990s that gave Italian Football so many great memories.

Roberto Mancini’s men qualified for the tournament with a perfect record of 10 victories.

They will face Turkey, Switzerland and Wales in the group stage, playing all those games at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

“I already wrote to Mancio and told him that only France have a superior squad to Italy,” Vieri told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Azzurri visit flooded Venice

A delegation representing the Italy squad paid a visit to Venice as it deals with historic levels of flooding. "The city will recover, like an injured player."

Chief delegate Gianluca Vialli, FIGC President Gabriele Gravina and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma all visited the iconic St Mark's Square, that has been under water for last several days due to extreme flooding.

The city has come to a standstill, with shops and schools closed for consecutive days. The water is slowly subsiding, although new floods are expected when the tide rises.

Vialli: 'Honoured to help Mancini'

Gianluca Vialli says it is an "honour" to work alongside Italy CT and ex-Sampdoria teammate Roberto Mancini's as chief delegate of the national team.

Vialli becomes Italy's first chief delegate since Gigi Riva, who retired from the role in 2013, linking up with Mancini after he failed in his efforts to buy Samp.

"I am happy to be here and fill this role, also because I think about whose who came before me [in the role] like Gigi Riva," he told Tuttomercatoweb.

Vialli: My conscience is clear

Gianluca Vialli says while he is ‘sorry’ his proposed Sampdoria takeover fell through, his conscience is ‘clear’ in a thinly-veiled dig at Massimo Ferrero.

Vialli’s consortium confirmed earlier in the week that they could not agree a price with Ferrero, and the former Blucerchiati striker expressed his disappointment at how things panned out.

“The reason is very simple, we didn’t agree a price with Ferrero,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Official: Samp takeover is off

Gianluca Vialli’s proposed purchase of Sampdoria is off after his consortium could not agree a price with President Massimo Ferrero.

Vialli had been heading the Calcioinvest consortium, which included Jamie Dinan and Alex Knaster as backers.

Talks went on for months, in turn affecting the early part of Eusebio Di Francesco’s reign as Coach, given they did not sign any senior players between July 13 and August 12.

A deal has long hinged on valuation, but it finally conceded defeat in a statement released on Monday.
