Pioli: 'High intensity Milan'

Stefano Pioli was not surprised by Fikayo Tomori’s performance in the win over Roma, relishing ‘a game with high tempo and intensity, the kind we like to play.’

The Rossoneri had gone into this game as underdogs following recent poor results and against the only side that was still unbeaten at home in Serie A this season.

However, Franck Kessie’s penalty and an Ante Rebic strike proved enough around a temporary Jordan Veretout equaliser.

Ibrahimovic: 'There's no time at Milan'

Zlatan Ibrahimovic claims he ‘Zlatanised’ Stefano Pioli, who proved himself to be a great coach at Milan, but the striker has no patience with his younger teammates.

He spoke to Discovery+ in Sweden and reveals how he affected the environment at Casa Milan when he arrived in January 2020.

“Perhaps I Zlatanised Pioli and made him become more like me,” smiled Ibra.

“He arrived at a Milan side where the atmosphere was difficult. If we are where we are now, it is thanks to the work he’s done, as he is a great coach.

Milan consider tactical changes

While Milan will stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation for now, including against Red Star Belgrade tomorrow, Stefano Pioli is studying other options.

The second leg of the Europa League Round of 32 fixture is on Thursday, after a 2-2 draw in Serbia.

Mario Mandzukic and Ismael Bennacer are still out of action and Zlatan Ibrahimovic not at 100 per cent, so Rafael Leao is likely to start as centre-forward.

He’ll be supported by Samu Castillejo, Rade Krunic and possibly also Hakan Calhanoglu in a slightly wider left role than he is accustomed to.

Derby spotlight confirms Inter and Milan status

Inter ruled the roost in the Derby della Madonnina, but Susy Campanale feels the season had already turned for both Milan clubs before this.

This was the biggest Milan Derby in a decade, the first time since 2011 that both local rivals were in the top two when they faced off at San Siro. After years of Nerazzurri fans mocking Yonghong Li and the tiny transfer budget, they find themselves with Suning ready to pack up their bags and the future uncertain. They won’t like to admit it, but the clubs and their fans are more similar than different. What we saw – and above all heard – this afternoon only confirms that.

Pioli: ‘Milan will react, Ibra asked to be substituted'

Stefano Pioli is convinced Milan will react after a 3-0 defeat in the derby della Madonnina and reveals why Zlatan Ibrahimovic asked to be substituted.

“The first goal was heavy for us. We lacked intensity in the first half, we should have done more, but we deserved to score in the second half,” Pioli told DAZN.

Is he disappointed by the performance of Zlatan Ibrahimovic?

“A striker depends on the team’s performance. In the first half we struggled to bring players close to their box even if we created some opportunities.
