Official: Milan sack Boban, 'back' Pioli

Milan have officially sacked director Zvonimir Boban after his public row with CEO Ivan Gazidis, who in turn reiterated “our full support” for coach Stefano Pioli, despite the Ralf Rangnick revelations.

The situation at Milanello had clearly reached breaking point after Boban spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport, revealing Gazidis had “gone behind our back” by contacting Rangnick for next season.

It was reported Boban had been fired for ‘just cause’ by a letter last night and that was confirmed this evening by a statement.

Pioli: 'Big opportunity for Milan'

Gazidis reiterates Milan faith in Pioli

There are reports CEO Ivan Gazidis told Milan players that Zvonimir Boban is out of the club, with Paolo Maldini to follow, while assuring faith in coach Stefano Pioli.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Gazidis spoke to the squad after today’s training session, where for the second day running he was the only club representative at the ground.

Kjaer: 'This has been a strange time'

Milan defender Simon Kjaer says it has “been strange” lately due to the postponed matches in the wake of the Coronavirus.

The defender spoke to Milan TV about the current situation in the country as the Italian game has been thrown into chaos due to the rapid rise of confirmed cases of the virus.

“These have been strange days, we haven’t played for almost two weeks, but it’s allowed me to have more time to recover,” Kjaer told the channel.

Fiorentina mark Astori anniversary

Fiorentina held a special mass within the training ground named after their beloved captain Davide Astori, two years on from his death.

The Italy international passed away from an undiagnosed heart condition in the team hotel in Udine on March 4, 2018.

In every match, Fiorentina fans sing Davide Astori’s chant at the 13th minute, marking his Number 13 jersey, and DA13 is always on the captain’s armband.

Pioli: 'Milan must believe in Coppa'

Stefano Pioli urges Milan to “believe that we have what it takes” to beat Juventus and reach the Coppa Italia Final, even without many star names.

The first leg ended 1-1 at San Siro and the decider for a place in the Final is on Wednesday at 20.00 GMT.

“That result gives our opponents a slight advantage, but it was a good performance where we proved that we’re on a par with Juventus,” Pioli told Milan TV.

Pioli: 'Glad Milan-Genoa postponed'

Stefano Pioli is pleased Milan’s game with Genoa was rescheduled rather than played behind closed doors, but “I do wish the decision had been made earlier.”

The Rossoneri’s game with Genoa was meant to be on Sunday at 11.30 GMT, but was postponed to May 13 along with Udinese-Fiorentina, Juventus-Inter, Sassuolo-Brescia and Parma-SPAL due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Boban: 'Gazidis went behind our backs'
