Pioli arrives for Milan

As Stefano Pioli arrives at Milan’s offices to sign his contract, more details have emerged about the terms of his two-year deal.

Pioli was spotted checking into Casa Milan earlier this morning, ahead of an official announcement expected at 12:00 BST.

Corriere dello Sera reports the former Fiorentina and Inter boss will put pen to paper on a two-year contract.

It would include a gentleman’s agreement for a break at the end of the season if the Rossoneri do not qualify for the Europa League or Champions League.

Pioli joins elite Milan-Inter club

Stefano Pioli becomes the eighth Coach to have represented both Milan and Inter, following the likes of Leonardo and Giovanni Trapattoni.

Pioli will be appointed after the dismissal of Marco Giampaolo and returns to San Siro after he was sacked by Inter in May 2017.

There have already been seven tacticians to have represented both sides of the Milanese divide.

The first was Jozsef Viola, who was in charge of what was then known as Ambrosiana-Inter in 1928-29 and moved across the city in 1933-34.

Gattuso considering Sampdoria job

After turning down Genoa, multiple sources report Gennaro Gattuso is in advanced talks to replace Eusebio Di Francesco at Sampdoria.

Gattuso was first choice for Genoa, but rejected the proposal from President Enrico Preziosi, as did Stefano Pioli (who is heading to Milan instead) and Francesco Guidolin (according to Sportitalia).

Endless parade of Milan managers

Since Max Allegri was fired in January 2014, Milan have had eight different tacticians on their bench and Stefano Pioli will make it nine.

The Rossoneri have seen a constant turnaround of Coaches, not helped by the fact that during that same period, the club has been under three different owners and a multitude of directors.

Following Allegri’s dismissal in January 2014, Milan had assistant manager Mauro Tassotti take charge of one game before Clarence Seedorf saw out the season.

Giampaolo sets new Milan record

Marco Giampaolo has set a new all-time club record by lasting just 111 days as the Coach of Milan before his dismissal.

The former Empoli and Sampdoria boss was sacked today, with Stefano Pioli widely expected to take over tonight.

Excluding caretaker managers, Giampaolo is the shortest-serving Coach in Milan’s history.

He had only seven games at the helm, resulting in three victories and four defeats.

OFFICIAL: Milan sack Giampaolo

Milan have officially sacked Marco Giampaolo and are expected to replace him with former Fiorentina and Inter boss Stefano Pioli.

“AC Milan announces it has relieved Mr. Marco Giampaolo from his position as coach of the First Team. The Club is grateful to Marco for the work carried out and wishes him all the best to come in his professional career.”

Giampaolo only replaced Gennaro Gattuso in the Rossoneri’s hotseat over the summer, having spent the past three seasons establishing Sampdoria as a Serie A team.

Pioli to sign for Milan tonight

Stefano Pioli is expected to sign his Milan contract this evening and take charge of the first training session tomorrow, replacing Marco Giampaolo.

Milan fans furious with Pioli

As Stefano Pioli prepares to sign a low-cost, two-year contract with Milan, fans are unhappy that another Inter supporter is taking the reins.

Pioli is set to replace Marco Giampaolo as Milan’s Coach, and Gazzetta dello Sport notes he will earn just €1m this season, with €1.5m to follow next term if he sees out his deal.

That is markedly less than the €4-4.5m that Luciano Spalletti was demanding for his services, prior to Inter refusing to cover his compensation costs.

Milan stick or twist with Giampaolo?

Marco Giampaolo is already facing the Milan axe, but Emmet Gates doubts the alternatives like Luciano Spalletti and Stefano Pioli are any better.

As Franck Kessie casually placed the ball past Genoa goalkeeper Ionut Radu to give Milan the lead – and the win - last weekend, many believed this to be Marco Giampaolo’s saving grace. Judging from reports leading into the fixture, a defeat against Genoa would be Giampaolo’s last in charge of the Rossoneri.
