Pioli: 'Very proud of Milan'

Stefano Pioli was “very proud” of Milan after their 1-1 Coppa Italia semi-final draw with Juventus, but wasn’t convinced by the decisive penalty.

Ante Rebic saw his opener cancelled out by a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty in the final minute, while Theo Hernandez was sent off.

The second leg will be in Turin on March 4, without suspended Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Samu Castillejo and Theo Hernandez.

“The Coppa Italia is important for all prestigious clubs, as they all want to do well in this tournament,” Pioli told Rai Sport and Milan TV.

Maldini: 'Happy with Pioli'

Milan director Paolo Maldini says the club are “happy” with coach Stefano Pioli, despite the derby defeat to Inter.

Pioli has been in charge of the Rossoneri since October, when he replaced Marco Giampaolo.

Pioli has steadied the ship, but it is expected that he won’t make it past the end of the current season.

Inter so much more than Ibra

Zlatan Ibrahimovic revitalised Milan for 45 minutes, but Inter had a collective to rely on and that will always trump individuals, writes Giancarlo Rinaldi.

It would have been easier, surely, to lie down and accept defeat. Dominated for half the match, missing a couple of key players and trailing by two goals to a side transformed by the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, there were plenty of reasons to raise the white flag. But when you’ve been starved of the Scudetto for so long, you don’t give up without a fight. This Inter side has reserves of character and commitment the club seems to have been lacking for a lifetime.

Pioli: 'Angry with Milan players'

Milan coach Stefano Pioli confessed he was “angry with my players, because we had defensive duties” and didn’t stick to them in a 4-2 defeat to Inter.

The Rossoneri had dominated the first half, taking a 2-0 lead with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s assist for Ante Rebic, then scoring the second himself.

Milan Derby is like no other

Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall describes the mood in the city of Milan ahead of the unique experience that is the Derby della Madonnina.

The team sheets did not inspire confidence; all they did was remind the fans of how far the clubs had fallen. It was April 2015, it felt like the end of an era, no, the end of a world order. Then it happened. From the bleak grey swirling staircases of San Siro, a firework was thrown. Its deep boom in the aching belly of the cathedral was felt in the pit of everybody’s stomach. What happened next was one of the best pyrotechnic displays the Derby Della Madonnina has ever seen.

Pioli: 'Maldini has quality'

Milan coach Stefano Pioli says his side lacked sharpness in front of goal and that Daniel Maldini “has quality’”.

The Rossoneri could only manage a 1-1 draw against Verona at San Siro, who also went down to ten men with the dismissal of Sofyan Amrabat deep into the second half.

“We suffered justly, because we conceded six shots on goal to Verona and we should’ve been more careful,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia following the game.
