Palermo time-loop

Diego Lopez got off to a good start at Palermo, but it will be almost impossible for him to ultimately succeed, writes Richard Thomas

Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it and Palermo fans must feel as if they’re stuck in a time-loop worthy of any sci-fi movie. New Coach arrives, sparks a reaction from the team, that dissipates within a couple of weeks, the President makes insulting public comments and the tactician is either fired or resigns. Rinse and repeat.

Udinese losing their way

With Beppe Iachini sacked and another tough season on the cards, Richard Thomas examines where it has gone wrong for Udinese in recent years.

Udinese’s decision to sack Coach Beppe Iachini following a poor run of form was the latest sign, as if there hadn’t been enough already, that things have taken a long-term turn for the worse in Friuli.

An insipid performance in the 3-0 home defeat by Lazio proved the final straw for owner Giampaolo Pozzo and President Franco Soldati, who promptly brought about the end of the former Palermo boss’ brief Bianconeri tenure. After just four and a half months, Iachini was gone.

Udinese to sack Iachini?

It is reported that Udinese are on the verge of sacking Coach Beppe Iachini following a 3-0 defeat to Lazio.

The Bianconeri were booed off at the end of the home defeat to Simone Inzaghi’s team, a result which means they have lost three of their last four games.

The 52-year-old has only been in charge at Stadio Friuli since May, but respected journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims he is now likely to lose his job.

A final decision on Iachini’s future is thought to be on the way soon but it appears the former Palermo boss will be dismissed.
