Gasperini - the one and only

When Serie A was interrupted by the Coronavirus outbreak, Gian Piero Gasperini was only one point away from breaking the 250-point milestone at Atalanta.

No one has a better record at the wheel of La Dea than the current coach and it seems like Gasperini has been breaking records since the day he arrived in Bergamo.

Four years on, he has brought the Orobici to Europe in his first season in charge and established them at the top in Italy, eventually leading them to a debut in the Champions League.

Cassano: 'If Ilicic was at Juve..."

Antonio Cassano has claimed that “the whole world” would have been talking about Atalanta forward Josip Ilicic if he played at Juventus.

The former Italy international heaped more praise on the Slovenian, who scored four goals in a 4-3 win against Valencia ahead of the forced break due to the Coronavirus.

Those four goals brought his total tally to 21 across all competitions, as the 32-year-old has impressed yet again in his third season with the Orobici.

Gasp: 'Lombardy is well organised'

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini has claimed the region of Lombardy is “sufficiently organised” and fears what could happen elsewhere.

The Orobici coach returned to Italy to find a different country from what he left ahead of the return leg in the last 16 of the Champions League against Valencia.

The party was cut short for La Dea, who progressed with an 8-4 win on aggregate against the Spanish side, as the 62-year-old and his men returned to “an inverted world”. Now, he fears what could happen in rest of Italy.

Ilicic the icon of Atalanta

Atalanta made their mark in the Champions League by thrashing Valencia over two legs and Kaustubh Pandey praises their historic four-goal hero Josip Ilicic.

Josip Ilicic was always meant to be ‘just another’ player in Serie A. He was never seen as a world-beater at his former clubs. His stints at Fiorentina and Palermo were hardly iconic, as his highest goal scoring tally stood at 13 for La Viola in the 2015-16 season. His move to Atalanta in the summer of 2017 had come in the wake of a mere five-goal season in 2016-17. It was one of the lowest scoring campaigns in his career.

Gasperini: 'Atalanta got the hang of it'

Gian Piero Gasperini explains why he left Josip Ilicic on after a hat-trick and believes Atalanta “have got the hang of the Champions League, but can do a lot better” after knocking Valencia out to reach the quarter-finals.

They won the first leg 4-1 at San Siro, the second 4-3 at an empty Mestalla, played behind closed doors due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Gasp: 'Spain like Italy a month ago'

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini says the feeling in Spain surrounding the Coronavirus is “what Italy was like a month ago” ahead of their Champions League Round of 16 second leg clash with Valencia.

La Dea hold a 4-1 lead over the Spanish side from the first leg, but Gasperini expects the second game to be very different.

“We won’t be influenced by the result of the first game. I believe that by not doing so we can play the second leg in the best possible way,” Gasperini told Sky Sport Italia.
