EDF: 'Strootman biggest Roma regret'

Eusebio Di Francesco reveals his biggest regrets at Roma, including the sale of Kevin Strootman, while Daniele De Rossi tried to prevent his dismissal.

He took the Giallorossi to an unexpected Champions League semi-final against Liverpool, only to be fired a few months later.

“Decisions were made that proved to be wrong, starting with the ones I regret the most, selling Strootman and Radja Nainggolan,” Di Francesco told the Corriere dello Sport newspaper.

EDF: 'My Roma regrets'

Eusebio Di Francesco has revealed his biggest Roma regret, “accepting the departures of Radja Nainggolan and Kevin Strootman.”

Di Francesco led Roma to the Champions League semi-finals in his first season with the two experienced midfielders, but they were sold the following summer and the coach was sacked before the end of his second campaign.

“It was a great midfield, with great technical and mental qualities,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Di Francesco studies English: 'I had offers from PL'

Eusebio Di Francesco expected a very different season but reveals that he currently ‘studies English’ and remains ‘open to any kind of new experience’.

After helping establish Sassuolo in Serie A, the currently unemployed coach took charge of Roma in in 2017-18 but was replaced by Claudio Ranieri in March 2019 after struggling to build on a semi-final in the Champions League from his first year at the Olimpico.

Ranieri: 'I knew I needed CL at Roma'

Sampdoria coach Claudio Ranieri has revealed that he knew his stint at Roma would be over without a place in the Champions League.

Last season, the 68-year-old replaced Eusebio Di Francesco at the Olimpico, but only lasted for a few months in the Italian capital.

He has revealed that he was aware of the task in hand and the Giallorossi decided to appoint Paulo Fonseca as their new coach last summer.

Torino hire Longo, line up EDF

Walter Mazzarri will be fired and replaced until the end of the season at Torino by Moreno Longo, but Eusebio Di Francesco is reportedly lined up for next season.

Multiple sources all confirm Mazzarri has already been informed of his dismissal, which became inevitable after two shocking Serie A defeats in a row.

The historic 7-0 home loss to Atalanta was followed by Sunday’s 4-0 hammering at the hands of minnows Lecce.

Ranieri revamps Sampdoria

Claudio Ranieri is taking Sampdoria back to the Marco Giampaolo era with a 4-3-1-2 formation for his debut against Roma on Sunday.

Eusebio Di Francesco was fired after six defeats in the opening seven rounds, but was constantly tinkering with the formation, from his traditional 4-3-3 to 3-5-2.

According to the latest reports from the training ground, Ranieri is going back to former boss Giampaolo’s approach, including Gaston Ramirez as the trequartista behind the two strikers.

Sevilla director of sport Monchi blames injuries for his failed spell at the Olimpico, but concedes Roma “kicked me out.”

Ferrero: 'Stars aligned for Ranieri'

Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero reveals he had tried to hire Claudio Ranieri before, but “right now the stars have aligned.”

Eusebio Di Francesco was fired after six defeats in seven games, leaving them bottom of the Serie A table, and called in former Roma boss Ranieri.
