Acerbi: 'Take a look at ourselves'

Roberto Mancini’s Italy took a giant step toward qualification for Euro 2020 with a hard-fought victory over Group J rivals Finland.

He chose to make five changes to the team that had beaten Armenia three days prior. Lazio centre-back Francesco Acerbi made his competitive debut for Italy with Armando Izzo, Stefano Sensi, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Ciro Immobile completing a much changed XI.

Acerbi: 'Italy know goal will come'

Francesco Acerbi praised Italy’s passing game and assured they “know the goal will come sooner or later, so we don’t worry” after a 2-1 win in Finland.

The Azzurri notched up six wins out of six in Euro 2020 qualifying Group J and are now six points clear at the top.

“It was a difficult game in a tough arena, Finland are a very physical side who run hard and we tried to focus on our passing,” Acerbi told Rai Sport.

Probable line-ups: Finland v Italy

Lorenzo Pellegrini is expected to start for Italy against Teemu Pukki’s Finland in this evening’s Euro 2020 qualifier, with several defensive changes.

It kicks off at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT) in Tampere.

The Azzurri have a 100 per cent record in Group J and Finland have won their last four in a row with clean sheets, losing only the opener 2-0 to Italy in Udine, with goals from Nicolò Barella and Moise Kean.

Italy: D'Ambrosio in for De Sciglio

After Giorgio Chiellini, now his Juventus teammate Mattia De Sciglio has also pulled out of the Italy squad, replaced by Inter’s Danilo D’Ambrosio.

The Azzurri go into Euro 2020 qualifiers against Armenia and Finland.

Coach Roberto Mancini has already been forced into one change after Chiellini tore his ACL in training, an injury that will keep him out for around six months.

The veteran made way for Lazio centre-back Francesco Acerbi.

Italy: Acerbi replaces injured Chiellini

Italy have called up Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi for games against Armenia and Finland after Giorgio Chiellini’s serious knee injury.

Juventus captain Chiellini sprained his knee in training today and tests confirmed a tear to the anterior cruciate ligament.

It will require surgery and this type of injury usually means at least three to six months out.

Acerbi's message to Mihajlovic

Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi has urged Bologna boss Sinisa Mihajlovic to face cancer ‘head on’ after battling the illness twice himself. 

Mihajlovic made the shock revelation on Saturday that he had been diagnosed with leukaemia.

Acerbi, meanwhile, fought off testicular cancer twice, going on to play 149 consecutive games for Sassuolo and Lazio.

Sassuolo 'not convinced' by De Zerbi

Sassuolo owner Giorgio Squinzi warns he is “not entirely convinced by Roberto De Zerbi, Khouma Babacar” or their defenders this season.

The Neroverdi are set to finish comfortably mid-table, but it’s not enough to satisfy the club patron, who reserved particular criticism for his Coach and centre-forward.

“We need a strong striker, like Simone Zaza and Gregoire Defrel, who both played for us,” Squinzi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Lazio ultras 'honour Mussolini'

A group of around 50 Lazio ultras unveiled a banner “honouring Benito Mussolini” in Milan today while chanting football slogans ahead of the Coppa Italia semi-final.

The second leg kicks off at San Siro at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT) after a 0-0 draw in Rome.

This afternoon, a group of approximately 50 Lazio ultras from the Irriducibili group went about ensuring their ode to Fascism was clear for all to see.

Gattuso: 'I have a Milan-Lazio dream'

Gennaro Gattuso wants to put the controversy behind him in the Coppa Italia semi-final. “I have a dream Milan and Lazio can walk out arm-in-arm.”

The row is still rumbling on after last week’s ill-tempered Milan 1-0 Lazio Serie A match at San Siro, which concluded with Tiemoue Bakayoko and Franck Kessie waving Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi’s shirt as if it were a trophy or the spoils of war, holding it up to their fans and laughing.
