Lazio centre-back has vowed to ‘fight until the end’ after falling four points behind league leaders Juventus on Wednesday: “We must improve.”

A 3-2 defeat to Atalanta increased the gap to the Bianconeri in the Scudetto battle and the Italy international admitted they were not at the required standard in their first match after the resumption.

“The approach was positive but unfortunately we didn’t do enough,” Acerbi told Lazio Style Channel. “We needed to keep up the attention.

Report: Lazio want to tie down Acerbi

Lazio are reportedly in talks with Francesco Acerbi and are looking to extend his contract until June 2024.

Journalist Nicolò Schira claims the Aquile have started negotiations with the centre-back, who has established himself as a key member of the side after arriving from Sassuolo last summer.

The 32-year-old’s performances has caught the eye of the Biancocelesti’s rivals and President Claudio Lotito would, according to the report, be willing to increase his salary to tie him down for an additional year.

Acerbi: 'No marking is impossible!'

Francesco Acerbi has warned that banning defenders from marking opponents tightly is ‘unthinkable’ and rubbished ‘fake news’ of player unrest at Lazio.

The issue of man-to-marking in Serie A matches once the season resumes is proving contentious, given it contravenes social distancing.

However, Acerbi made it clear that as much as Calcio had changed because of coronavirus, ‘the games won’t be table football’.

Acerbi: 'Government rule makes no sense'

Lazio captain Francesco Acerbi protests at the Government’s confusing social distancing rules. “We were stunned. How can we run in the park, but not in a training ground?”

The Government is facing a strong backlash from Serie A clubs and the FIGC after the announcement of Phase Two in the coronavirus pandemic response.

Citizens can resume running in the park with a two-metre distance from others as of May 4, while athletes for individual sports such as tennis can also start training.

Acerbi: 'AIC wants to resume'

Francesco Acerbi has claimed the Players’ Association wants to complete the season and insisted Lazio have the right mentality to challenge Juventus in the event of a resumption.

The Biancocelesti won the Supercoppa Italiana in December and were on an unbeaten run of 21 games in Serie A before the forced break.

The 32-year-old defender, who has been a key member since his move from Sassuolo, has it’s difficult to keep the momentum going during the quarantine period.
