Miranda: ‘I want to play more’

Inter defender Miranda says it’s “logical” that he wants to play more but will try to “take advantage of the minutes available”.

The Brazilian has fallen down the San Siro pecking order this term, with Stefan de Vrij usually preferred alongside Milan Skriniar.

The 34-year-old made a late appearance of the bench in the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last night, but admitted after the match he’s keen to play more often.

Allan makes Brazil debut

Napoli midfielder Allan made his debut for Brazil in this evening’s 1-0 friendly victory over Uruguay, as Diego Laxalt gave away a penalty.

Although he had five caps for his country at Under-20 level, the 27-year-old had not previously featured for the Seleçao.

He had been approached by Italy to switch his allegiance, but this alerted Tite to the urgency of the situation and he was called up.

Miranda out, Andersen in?

Inter have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Joachim Andersen, while Joao Miranda could return to Spain.

The Sampdoria defender has been linked with Juventus and Arsenal, having impressed in his two seasons in Italy so far.

According to Tuttosport, Nerazzurri sporting director Piero Ausilio was spotted at the Youth League match between his side and Barcelona, along with Carlo Osti and Antonio Romei of Samp.

That has been taken as a signal that talks for Andersen are continuing, and he may well be a replacement for Miranda.

Skriniar makes his mark on Barca

Inter put in a fantastic defensive display against Barcelona, argues Richard Hall, with none more impressive than the Great Wall of San Siro, Milan Skriniar.

The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza saw her capacity crowd chant the Champions League anthem out with such ferocity, it reverberated around the city. This was arguably one of Inter’s greatest weapons, the venue one the most impressive in Europe, and they needed that strength on Tuesday night.

Barcelona may have not had Lionel Messi in the starting line-up, but the Milanese were aware of the significant threat they faced. They would be playing with their backs to the wall the entire night and one man in particular would stand out.

New contracts for Inter six

Inter have announced contract renewals for six players, including Marcelo Brozovic, Matias Vecino, Antonio Candreva and Joao Miranda.

The Nerazzurri released the brief statement with all their big names included.

Brozovic and Vecino have signed new contracts to June 2022, while Candreva runs to June 2021.

Henrique Dalbert and Roberto Gagliardini are tied to the club until June 2023.

Defender Joao Miranda has also signed a new deal to June 2020.

Miranda seals SuperClasico

Juventus are concerned after Paulo Dybala limped off during Argentina’s friendly with Brazil, while Joao Miranda scored the last-gasp winner.

La Joya was in the starting XI with Inter striker Mauro Icardi and Fiorentina defender German Pezzella in Jedda.

The showpiece friendly was decided by Inter defender Miranda’s header on a Neymar corner deep into stoppages, with Giovanni Simeone of Fiorentina failing to jump and cut it out at the near post.

Porto up for Miranda

Inter defender Joao Miranda is a January transfer target for FC Porto, according to Brazilian site UOL Esporte.

The 34-year-old centre-back has fallen down the pecking order with the arrival of Stefan de Vrij and Milan Skriniar.

Brazilian media maintain Porto directly contacted his agent Deco, a former player at the Portuguese giants.

Miranda’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season and he has been at San Siro since his €13m move from Atletico Madrid in 2015.

Miranda renewal on the way?

Inter defender Joao Miranda is reportedly close to renewing his contract for another year.

The Brazilian’s current deal expires at the end of the season, and the Nerazzurri have no intention of losing him on a free transfer.

According to calciomercato.com, the centre-back was actually close to leaving the club earlier this summer, but sporting director Piero Ausilio played a decisive role in convincing him to stay.

The director flew out to Brazil’s training camp in London to speak to the veteran, who is now convinced about staying.
