Doctor: 'Zaniolo could make Euro 2020'

Pier Paolo Mariani, the doctor who operated on Nicolo Zaniolo’s knee, says the Roma player can recover ahead of Euro 2020.

Zaniolo was stretchered off in the 36th minute against Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening, and it was later confirmed that he had ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament and damaged the meniscus.

On Monday he went under the knife to reconstruct part of the damaged knee, and is expected to be out of action for five to six months.

Rudiger coy on ‘winner’ Conte

Antonio Rudiger has praised Chelsea boss Antonio Conte as a ‘winner’ but refused to state that he wants the Italian to stay.

Rudiger was on record as criticising Conte’s tactics earlier in the season, although Chelsea went on to end a turbulent campaign with an FA Cup.

“Conte? I think everyone knows he’s a very good Coach, tactically very good,” the former Roma defender said at a Press conference.

Rudiger in Conte dig?

Antonio Rudiger appeared to criticise Antonio Conte’s tactics after Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with West Ham United. “I don’t understand why we always drop…”

Chelsea fell 10 points behind the Champions League places after another missed opportunity against a London rival, and Rudiger expressed concern with how his team were playing under Conte.

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger says he is relishing Tuesday’s trip to former club Roma. “I had two wonderful years there…”

Rudiger helped Roma to consecutive, runners-up finishes in Serie A before joining Chelsea over the summer, although the German’s first encounter with the Giallorossi - a 3-3 draw in the Champions League a fortnight ago - was marred by racist chanting in his direction.

Roma undervalued Salah and Rudiger

According to the Football Observatory, Roma undersold Mohamed Salah to Liverpool and Antonio Rudiger to Chelsea.

They used their algorithm to calculate the gap between amount paid and value estimated, which this season showed that inflation is accelerating in the transfer market.

Kylian Mbappé was easily the most over-paid player, as he cost €180m for Paris Saint-Germain, but the value of the Monaco player was objectively €92.6m.

Rudiger seeks racism 'justice'

Former Roma defender Antonio Rudiger reiterated his disappointment with the lack of “justice” for racist abuse in Serie A. “Not all Italian people are racist.”

The new Chelsea signing discovered the weak response to insults from the fans, but above all from Lazio player Senad Lulic, who famously said on television that the German international was “selling shoes and belts” before he came to Roma.

“You feel alone,” Rudiger told reporters of his experience with racism.
