Pirlo, Batistuta start coaching course

Andrea Pirlo, Gabriel Batistuta and Thiago Motta are among the former players starting an FIGC coaching course this morning.

The special course is reserved for former players, and got underway at Coverciano this morning.

It will run until July 19, and will combine the UEFA A and B licences.

That means the former professionals will be able to coach youth teams, and any senior team up to Serie C.

They can also be registered as assistants in Serie A or Serie B.

Motta: ‘Verratti struggling mentally’

Marco Verratti’s Paris Saint-Germain teammate Thiago Motta says the Italian international “struggles to handle” defeats.

The 25-year-old has been in Ligue 1 since the summer of 2012, but some have suggested that his development has stalled in recent years.

However, his club and former international teammate believes any issue with Verratti is purely mental.

“Marco came from a Serie B club, Pescara, and he came to PSG not to Ligue 2,” Motta reminded L’Équipe.

Throwback: Inter reach CL final

If there’s such a thing as a heroic defeat, Inter achieved it with their 1-0 loss to Barcelona on April 28, 2010.

The Nerazzurri had beaten Pep Guardiola’s side 3-1 at San Siro, but Pedro’s 19th-minute away goal meant the Blaugrana were confident of progressing.

Barça had swept all before them the previous season, winning the treble in Guardiola’s first season as a Coach.
