Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo, Spezia coach Vincenzo Italiano, Paolo Montero and Marco Cassetti are among the figures who earned their coaching badges today.

Pirlo and Italiano were given emergency extensions because they had already begun the course, completing it this afternoon at the Coverciano training centre.

On this day: Mourinho beats old side Chelsea

On this day in 2010, Jose Mourinho returned to haunt his former side Chelsea in the Round of 16 in the Champions League.

Mourinho had taken over at San Siro in the summer of 2008 following his dismissal from Chelsea during the 2007-08 season.

In his first season, 2008-09, he secured the Scudetto but the Nerazzurri exited the Champions League limply after being brushed aside by Manchester United in the Round of 16.

Nicola wants 'continuity'

Davide Nicola has claimed Genoa were “not lacking identity” before his arrival and remains focused on bringing “continuity” to the Marassi.

Rossoblu replaced Thiago Motta with Nicola in December and handed the former Crotone and Udinese boss a six-month deal with an option to extend.

Despite having made clear improvements at the Marassi, Nicola declines the suggestions that he has given the team an identity.

Nicola: 'Genoa back to Plan A'

Davide Nicola described how he adjusted Genoa on his debut for a 2-1 win over Sassuolo, referring back to Aurelio Andreazzoli more than Thiago Motta.

This was the Grifone’s first victory since October 26, which was the debut of their last coach, Thiago Motta.

Nicola represents the third different tactician to sit on the Genoa bench this season, as Andreazzoli was fired on October 22.

No Lanterna at end of Genoa tunnel

These are worrying times for Genoa and Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall tries to make sense of the mess in Liguria.

Forget criticising Thiago Motta for the 2-7-1 formation. The idea is a sound one and is nothing more than how the team would be set out if offensively when in possession. It is basically a 3-4-2-1 out of possession and something Pep Guardiola has often used. The fact is, Motta did not stand a chance at Genoa, neither would Mikel Arteta, Fabio Grosso or any other up and coming coach one can think of. That is simply because the environment Motta had to work in reeked of short termism and desperation.

Three in, four out for Genoa?

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi is initiating a mini-revolution at the club, it is claimed, starting with the signing of Milan’s Fabio Borini.

Preziosi recently sacked Thiago Motta after only two months in the job, replacing him with former Crotone and Udinese boss Davide Nicola.

Now, Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira states the club is set to offload four players, with three coming in.

Milan forward Borini would to be the first player to arrive, followed by Belgrano defender Bruno Amione and Viktoria Plzen attacker Michael Krmencik.
