Ex-Italy stars take coaching badges

Several former players joined the new coaching course to get their badges, including Alessandro Del Piero, Christian Vieri and Daniele De Rossi.

The course is held at the Coverciano ground and is for the UEFA B/A level.

This would allow them to work as coaches in the youth sectors, lead any women’s football teams and men’s teams up to Serie C.

They could also become assistant managers in Serie A or B, but need another course to become head coach in a Serie A or B club.

Verona ask for Vlahovic

Hellas Verona have reportedly approached Fiorentina about forward Dusan Vlahovic and expect a response within next week.

After Giampaolo Pazzini’s farewell, Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims Ivan Juric is looking for a new striker.

The report claims Verona have contacted Fiorentina, who could be willing to let 20-year-old Vlahovic move this summer.

But the Viola have no shortage of offers for the Serbian and would prefer to send the player on loan for 2020-21.

Pazzini leaves Hellas Verona

Giampaolo Pazzini has announced he is leaving Hellas Verona after five years and could well retire in the city. ‘I have some ideas on what I’d like to do as a grown-up.’

The striker turns 36 next month and his contract has not been renewed, so will be allowed to expire on Monday.

“I knew this was coming for a while, but was also trying not to think about it. The last time I went to the stadium, I realised we had come to the end of the road,” said Pazzini in a press conference.

Monza set to sign Pazzini

Silvio Berlusconi’s Monza appear to have landed their big-name striker for Serie B in the form of Giampaolo Pazzini.

Monza had been linked with audacious moves for the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Mario Balotelli following their recent promotion.

However, Calciomercato.com reports they have reached a ‘broad agreement’ with Pazzini, who will become a free agent next month.

The 35-year-old helped Verona into Serie A with 12 goals last term but has managed just 251 minutes of football to date in 2019-20.

Serie A Seasons: Roma 2009-10

Roma and Claudio Ranieri went from being bottom of Serie A to pushing Inter all the way for the Scudetto, but stumbled on the home straight...

Words: Livio Caferoglu

Roma are unrivalled when it comes to being the ‘nearly men’ of Italian football. Despite spending just one of their 92 years in existence outside of Serie A, they have won only three Scudetti and finished runners-up on no less than 14 occasions. Yet the 2009-10 campaign saw them come a whisker away from gatecrashing Inter’s year of the Treble.
