Platini: 'Dybala more like Maradona than me'

Former Juventus hero Michel Platini thinks Argentine forward Paulo Dybala ‘looks more like Diego Maradona than me’.

Platini picked up two Scudetti, one Coppa Italia and a European Cup during his five years with the Old Lady and retired after having won three Ballon d’Or and three Capocannoniere titles.

Dybala has been likened to the 65-year-old, but the former UEFA President has claimed he is more similar to Napoli legend Maradona.

VIDEO: Maradona congratulates Mertens

Diego Maradona has congratulated Dries Mertens for becoming Napoli’s all-time top goalscorer. “Like this, we get better every day.”

Maradona had been Napoli’s top scorer for almost three decades on 115 goals, until Marek Hamsik surpassed him in December 2017.

Hamsik left Napoli on 121 goals, which Mertens had been stuck on since February before his equaliser against Inter, which also sent the Partenopei into the Coppa Italia Final.

Serie A Seasons: Napoli 2000-01

Napoli’s return to the big time marked the beginning of the end, as having joint Presidents with opposing ideas on the transfer market was a recipe for chaos...

Words: Livio Caferoglu

If there was ever a club that set the bar for what not to do, look no further than Napoli in 2000-01. Their promotion in May 2000 should’ve been the catalyst for their revival, but it instead proved to be the first step towards their bankruptcy four years later. Aurelio De Laurentiis has since re-established the southern powerhouse, yet it could all have been avoided if Corrado Ferlaino - the man who brought Diego Maradona to the San Paolo – had it his way.

Marocchi: 'Baggio too nice to be like Maradona'

Roberto Baggio was too nice and clean-cut to be as famous as Diego Maradona, claims former Juventus teammate Giancarlo Marocchi. “A Number 10 was meant to go partying and take drugs.”

The Divine Ponytail was arguably the greatest Italian player of all time, but was too tactically free to fit in with the rigid management style of the time.

“I played six years with Baggio at Juventus and Bologna, so that’s the longest relationship I’ve had with anyone other than my wife,” Marocchi told Sky Sport Italia.

On This Day: Maradona's warm-up

It was on April 19, 1989 that Diego Armando Maradona delighted Napoli fans with what remains an iconic warm-up, set to the song Live is Life.

The Argentina legend showed no sign of nerves when preparing for the UEFA Cup semi-final against Bayern Munich in Germany, as he transformed a simple routine to get the muscles ready into a dance display with football as his partner.

Napoli had a 2-0 lead from the first leg going into the Munich Olympiastadion and El Pibe de Oro was thoroughly enjoying himself when the 1985 song by Opus came over the loudspeakers.
