Pavoletti starts Cagliari medical

Napoli striker Leonardo Pavoletti has arrived to begin his medical for a €12m transfer to Cagliari.

The 28-year-old had only joined the Partenopei eight months ago for €18m from Genoa, but barely featured due to injuries and the excellent form of other players.

“I am very happy,” he told reporters when entering the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome for his tests this afternoon.

He made 10 competitive appearances in a Napoli jersey, but never scored a goal.

The deal is reported to be worth €12m.

Pavoletti to Cagliari today?

Leonardo Pavoletti is expected to take his Cagliari medical today, ahead of a €12m move from Napoli.

The Isolani have allowed last season’s top-scorer Marco Borriello to join SPAL, so had a vacancy up-front.

They immediately moved for Pavoletti, and with Sassuolo admitting that they can’t afford him, Sky Italia reports he’ll take his medical today before signing a five-year contract.

The striker will become Cagliari’s record signing, with the Sardinian club set to pay €12m to the Partenopei to sign him.

Sassuolo: ‘Pavoletti costs too much’

Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali says Leonardo Pavoletti is “ideal” for them, but Napoli must lower their asking price.

The striker joined the Partenopei in January, but injury problems and the form of Dries Mertens meant he didn’t make a single appearance.

It has been suggested that he could move to the Neroverdi before Thursday night’s transfer deadline, and the Emilian side would certainly like to sign him.

“Pavoletti is the ideal profile for what Sassuolo need,” Carnevali told Gazzetta di Modena.

Sassuolo & Cagliari near new strikers?

Sassuolo and Cagliari are reportedly on the verge of signing Leonardo Pavoletti and Filip Djordjevic respectively.

According to Tuttosport, Napoli are prepared to sell Pavoletti back to Sassuolo for €15m, contrary to previous reports that he had been taken off the market.

Cagliari had been linked with the former Genoa attacker, but they are now expected to move for Djordjevic.

Pavoletti not released to Cagliari

Napoli appear to have decided they want to keep Leonardo Pavoletti, so Cagliari have turned to Lazio striker Filip Djordjevic instead.

It was widely reported that Pavoletti would join the Sardinians on a dry loan – without option to buy – in order to get regular playing time.

However, Sky Sport Italia now suggest the Partenopei have changed their minds and intend to keep Pavoletti in the squad.

The 28-year-old cost €18m when signed from Genoa in January, but has made just 10 competitive appearances for the club.

Pavoletti close to Cagliari

Napoli striker Leonardo Pavoletti will join Cagliari tomorrow, according to reports, on loan with option to buy.

The forward joined the Partenopei from Genoa last January, but injury problems and the form of Dries Mertens meant he didn’t make a single Serie A appearance.

It’s therefore all-but certain he’ll leave the San Paolo this summer, and Tuttomercatoweb believes he’ll join Cagliari tomorrow.

The Isolani have lost last season’s top-scorer Marco Borriello to SPAL, so are in need of reinforcements up front.

The Sardinians lost their Serie A opener, 3-0 away to reigning champions Juventus, and are still seeking reinforcements.

Marco Borriello and Bartosz Salamon joined Spal yesterday, but Sky Sport Italia and the Corriere dello Sport maintain their replacements have already been chosen.

Rastelli: 'Harsh on Cagliari'

Massimo Rastelli felt a 3-0 defeat to Juventus was harsh on Cagliari and confirmed they’ll bring in Gregory van der Wiel from Fenerbahce.

The Sardinians had the chance to equalise an early Mario Mandzukic strike when VAR was used for the first time in Serie A to award a penalty, but Diego Farias saw his spot-kick parried by Gigi Buffon.

Juve went on to win 3-0 with Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain goals.

Napoli: Pavoletti out, Rafael in

Leonardo Pavoletti has been left out of Napoli’s squad due to “sudden family problems”, but reported Newcastle United target Rafael is in.

The cause of Pavoletti’s absence was given by Napoli on their official website, amidst speculation that the striker is close to joining Cagliari.

However, Rafael is among the Partenopei’s goalkeeping options for the trip to Verona on Saturday, despite Sky Sport Italia claiming he was a “possibility” for Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle.

Cagliari eye Pavoletti swoop

Marco Borriello is heading towards Spal, so Cagliari aim to replace him with Napoli outcast Leonardo Pavoletti.

Multiple sources suggest today that Borriello has played his last game in Sardinia following a row with Coach Massimo Rastelli.

Sky Sport Italia are confident he’s going towards Spal, despite interest also from Bologna and Genoa.

It’s possible the 35-year-old hitman will simply terminate his contract by mutual consent.
