Preziosi: 'Serie A must go on'

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi says Serie A must go: ‘If everything goes on with all the precautions, I do not understand why football should stop’.

“I don’t think there’s any grounds for interrupting the Serie A,” Preziosi told GR Parlamento on Monday.

“The situation does not make us smile but if everything goes on with all the precautions, I do not understand why football should stop.

“You have to save the show, the championship that must go on.”

Preziosi: 'Genoa risk Serie B with COVID outbreak'

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi warns his club ‘risks losing many games by default and relegation to Serie B’ if the COVID-19 outbreak doesn’t ease its grip soon.

They have been the Serie A club by far worst affected by the virus, with 17 players and five members of staff testing positive.

“I still have 15 players who are positive, none of them have moved on to a negative status, and almost all of them are first choice picks,” Preziosi told the Corriere dello Sport.

Balotelli an intriguing fit for Genoa

Mario Balotelli looks as if he’ll sign for Genoa and Richard Hall writes that this could be the perfect fit for both, although any harmony is likely to be short lived.

Many will think that this is a case of the madman running the asylum; maybe they are right in some way. Mario Balotelli is on the verge of signing for Genoa, a club whose only constant is an annual ability to underwhelm, his presence will surely bring further chaos to a club that already has plenty of it. Mario has never had a great relationship with any of his employers, but could it work in the short term? Genoa are in desperate need of a goal scorer and his arrival could give them a spark this season.

Maran clear front-runner in sack race

Coaches promise to be even more disposable than usual this season, and Owen Diana already has an idea of who will be the first to go...

The COVID-19 pandemic has emptied stadiums and lightened the wallets of clubs up and down the peninsula, but even an international health emergency has been unable to stop the ceaseless whir of the managerial merry-go-round in Serie A. This most atypical of domestic campaigns will surely see a sacking before the winter chill sets in, leaving the question of which mister will be the first to receive his marching orders. Although there is no shortage of candidates for the unwanted honour, Genoa’s Rolando Maran must be the early favourite.
