‘Piatek like Motta & Milito’

Genoa owner Enrico Preziosi admits ‘I went for Krzysztof Piatek after a couple of videos’ and compares his arrival to those of Thiago Motta and Diego Milito.

Piatek has made an immediate impact for Genoa, scoring seven goals in his first four appearances for the Grifone, and Preziosi expects the Pole to emulate two of his ‘great buys’.

“Piatek is a very strong 23-year-old. I went for him after I watched a couple of videos of him,” he told Corriere dello Sport.

Preziosi: Piatek won’t join Napoli

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi has ruled out ever selling Krzysztof Piatek to Napoli. “History shows no deal is possible.”

Piatek has already been linked with Napoli after firing seven goals in his first three appearances for Genoa, but Preziosi made it clear on the Grifone’s 125-year anniversary that the striker ‘still has to prove his worth’.

‘Napoli could have got Perin’

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi says Napoli were “too late” to sign Mattia Perin, and is sad to see him on the Juventus bench.

The Partenopei were linked with the goalkeeper this summer, but he ultimately moved to Turin for €12m plus €3m in bonuses.

“We pointed out that there was the possibility of Perin, but Napoli were after [Bernd] Leno,” Preziosi confirmed on Radio Marte.

“The Azzurri even made a bigger offer than Juventus did, but by then it was done with the Bianconeri.

‘No problem for Bertolacci’

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi assures “we won’t have problems with Milan” with regard to a permanent deal for Andrea Bertolacci.

The midfielder spent last season on loan with the Grifone, but it has been suggested that negotiations had stalled over a permanent deal.

“Despite what they say, we won’t have problems with Milan for Bertolacci,” Preziosi told Telenord.

“I’m talking to [Coach Davide] Ballardini, he told me what he wants, he told me what he wants and we’re trying to satisfy him.”

Gambling advertising could be banned

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi calls proposals to ban gambling advertising in Italian football as “madness”.

Movimento 5 Stelle, the party which won the most seats at the last election and which is in a coalition government with the Lega, has proposed a ban on gambling advertising as part of the so-called ‘decree of dignity’.

Preziosi: ‘Younes out for months’

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi claims Amin Younes, who joins Napoli on July 1, “will be out for seven or eight months” with an injury.

The German international signed a pre-contract agreement with the Partenopei in January, but then appeared to try to back out of the move.

He was in Naples in January with a view to moving the transfer forward, but he returned to Ajax, ostensibly to be closer to his grandfather.

Younes’ behaviour means he almost certainly has no future at the San Paolo, so he could be sold or loaned out.

Sky and Perform win Serie A rights

Sky Sport Italia and Perform have won the TV rights to Serie A for 2018-21 for €973m per year after Mediaset pulled out.

The bidding war had to resume after Mediapro saw their initial victory wiped out on appeal due to anti-trust laws.

Mediaset Premium had also been in talks for the rights today, but pulled out after the first round of bids.

“The rights have been assigned to Sky and Perform, while Mediaset did not present an offer,” confirmed Genoa President Enrico Preziosi.

‘ADL to blame for Perin breakdown’

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi claims Aurelio De Laurentiis, not Maurizio Sarri, was to blame for Napoli missing out on Mattia Perin.

Genoa sporting director Giorgio Perinetti claimed over the weekend that Sarri wanted a goalkeeper with ‘better feet’ than Perin, who has since joined Juventus, but Preziosi made it clear who the buck lay with.

“Sarri didn’t want Perin? No, it wasn’t like that,” he told 7 Gold.

Genoa eye Mandragora and Sturaro

Genoa are eager to bring Rolando Mandragora and Stefano Sturaro back from Juventus, according to Sky Sport Italia.

Grifone President Enrico Preziosi confirmed today that they were interested in a loan deal with Mandragora.

The 20-year-old midfielder impressed during his loan spell at Crotone and earned his first senior Italy cap, so would relish more playing time at his first club.
