Inglese 'learning new concepts'

Roberto Inglese concedes he has to “learn new concepts” with Napoli and Carlo Ancelotti. “He asks me to play the ball to feet more.”

The former Chievo centre-forward arrived this summer, having cost €10m in 2017 and left at the Bentegodi on loan for last season.

“It is a completely different club and not at all what I was accustomed to,” Inglese told Sky Sport Italia.

Ancelotti's first Napoli XI

Carlo Ancelotti has named the line-up for his debut Napoli friendly, a 4-3-3 with Marko Rog, Marek Hamsik and Fabian Ruiz in midfield.

The new Coach will have his first match of pre-season training against Serie C side Gozzano.

There are several new faces in the line-up, from goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis to midfielder Fabian Ruiz and centre-forward Roberto Inglese.

Obviously, choices are limited due to injuries for Alex Meret and Faouzi Ghoulam, while many are still away on international duty.

West Ham join Inglese chase

West Ham United are showing interest in Napoli-owned striker Roberto Inglese, but face competition from Bologna and Sporting CP.

The centre-forward was bought from Chievo last summer for €10m, but stayed at the Stadio Bentegodi on loan, scoring 12 goals in 34 Serie A appearances.

Now that Carlo Ancelotti has replaced Maurizio Sarri on the Napoli bench, Inglese may well no longer be needed.

Genoa go for Inglese?

Genoa’s search for a new striker has reportedly taken them to Napoli’s Roberto Inglese.

According to Rai, Inglese ‘does not seem’ to be part of new boss Carlo Ancelotti’s plans for Napoli and is looking to join a team who can ‘guarantee him a starting spot’.

The broadcaster explains Genoa could be that club, providing they can move on Gianluca Lapadula, who is ‘insistently sought after’ by Bologna.

Bologna ask after Inglese

Bologna have asked Napoli for Roberto Inglese, but the Partenopei want €20m for the ex-Chievo centre-forward.

According to Il Resto del Carlino newspaper, the Rossoblu are interested in bringing Inglese to the Stadio Dall’Ara next term.

He was bought by Napoli last year, but left at Chievo for one more season on loan, in which he scored 13 goals with two assists in 36 competitive matches.

The price of the operation was €10m, yet the asking price a year later seems to have doubled.

ADL: 'Players rejected Napoli'

During his media blitz, Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis suggested they couldn’t sign new players because “they were afraid of never getting to play.”

The patron would appear to be setting the groundwork for Coach Maurizio Sarri’s exit, which could happen because the Chelsea and Arsenal target has a release clause in his contract.

Roma crush Chievo despite red card

Roma flattened Chievo 4-1, including two goals after Juan Jesus had been sent off and Alisson saved a penalty, to retain third place.

The Giallorossi had to shake off the disappointment of their 5-2 Champions League semi-final defeat to Liverpool and prepare for Wednesday’s second leg, so Kostas Manolas, Alessandro Florenzi and Cengiz Under were rested with Kevin Strootman, Diego Perotti and Gregoire Defrel were injured. The Flying Donkeys arrived just two points clear of the relegation zone with Massimo Gobbi injured.

Chievo Kings of Mediocrity

Once the doyens of Calcio neutrals, the Flying Donkeys now float along doing the bare minimum to survive in Serie A, writes Richard Hall.

There is no state of flux in the Chievo camp, none at all. The Veronese club are experts when it comes to these situations, they have seen it all before. Most other clubs would have been up in arms, looking for the exit, looking for religion maybe, especially if they had just lost eight and drawn two of their last ten games.
