‘Don’t whistle Lapadula’

Genoa Coach Davide Ballardini criticises fans for whistling Gianluca Lapadula - “he took responsibility”.

The striker missed a penalty against Spal, drawing whistles from the crowd after just two Serie A goals all season.

The 28-year-old later made it three goals after converting a second spot kick, and his Coach wants the forward to be given more support.

“I don’t agree with the whistles at all,” Ballardini declared in his pre-Cagliari Press conference.

Ballardini sees tight battle

Davide Ballardini believes the race to avoid relegation will go down to the wire after Genoa were held 1-1 by 10-man SPAL.

It was a very controversial result, as SPAL went behind to an extremely dubious penalty that also saw Francesco Vicari sent off just 28 minutes in.

“We were generous, in a good and a bad way. We tried very hard, but also gifted our opponents too many chances and spaces,” the Grifone Coach told Rai Sport.

Ballardini: 'Genoa courage with Napoli'

Genoa boss Davide Ballardini was pleased that they managed to cause Napoli so many problems in a slender 1-0 defeat.

It took a Raul Albiol header from a corner to break down the Grifone 72 minutes in at the Stadio San Paolo.

“It’s not easy for anyone to come to the San Paolo and have five or six chances. We conceded on a corner, we had the right overall approach, but if you are not concentrated for 90 minutes, you will concede,” Ballardini told Mediaset Premium.

Ballardini: 'Genoa went too deep'

The 1-0 result was decided at Marassi by the substitute with the last kick of the game.

“When you go too deep, don’t take your chances and allow quality opponents to cross, you may well concede a goal,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.
