Milan step up Aurier pursuit

Milan director Paolo Maldini did not deny negotiations have resumed with Tottenham Hotspur for right-back Serge Aurier, who has a €15m price-tag.

He was asked about the interest in a pre-match interview with Sky Sport Italia ahead of last night’s 3-0 win over Cagliari.

“We spoke to his agent last year, to be honest, now we’ll see how the next few weeks go,” smiled Maldini.

The 27-year-old Ivorian is primarily a right-back, but can also play on the left when needed.

Report: Maldini to meet with Pioli

Technical director Paolo Maldini has reportedly scheduled a meeting with Milan coach Stefano Pioli immediately after the current campaign in order to map out the upcoming season.

Both director Maldini and coach Pioli have gone through difficult months of uncertainty at the Rossoneri but seem set to continue together after the dramatic change of plans at Milanello this month.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Maldini will sit down with confirmed coach Pioli after a positive second half of the season.

Milan stick rather than twist

News of Stefano Pioli’s new contract ended the prospect of a brave new world at Milan. Richard Hall analyses why Ralf Rangnick isn’t coming after all, and who the winners and losers are…

Whether you agree or disagree with Stefano Pioli’s extension as Milan coach until 2022, you would have to say this is a victory for the establishment. Paolo Maldini is also set to stay on and it seems he has certainly used his influence to the full in this political struggle. Whilst time will tell if this is a large dose of short termism or not, the process has been a confused one and it confirms Milan were not willing to take a leap of faith and embark on a new project that could have seen Ralf Rangnick revolutionise the club.

Official: Milan extend Pioli to 2022

Milan confirmed they will not hire Ralf Rangnick and are extending Stefano Pioli’s contract to 2022. 'This is not a decision based on recent victories, but one based on how Stefano has built team spirit and unity of purpose.'

“AC Milan announce that an agreement has been reached with Stefano Pioli for a two-year extension of his contract as coach of the first team, which will therefore now expire in June 2022.”

Report: Rangnick to Milan is off

Kicker and Bild in Germany are reporting that Ralf Rangnick’s proposed move to take over at Milan next season has been abandoned, as Stefano Pioli will sign a new contract.

Milan had been in negotiations with Rangnick reportedly as long ago as November 2019, that was the version of events given by former director Zvonimir Boban.

After complaining publicly that he and Paolo Maldini had not been informed by CEO Ivan Gazidis that the talks were taking place, Boban was fired.
