Italy unstoppable at San Siro

Italy are unbeaten at San Siro, but have drawn their last four here, while Milan joins Rome as the most popular Azzurri venue after hosting Portugal tonight.

The Nations League clash kicks off at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza at 19.45 GMT.

It comes a year after the 0-0 draw with Sweden ruled Italy out of the 2018 World Cup, having lost the first leg of the play-off 1-0.

That was their fourth consecutive stalemate at San Siro after friendlies against Germany in both 2013 and 2016, plus a Euro 2014 qualifier with Croatia.

‘Stadium project could advance quickly’

Inter’s CEO feels “there are all the conditions to be able to proceed quickly” on the shared stadium project with Milan.

The two clubs have agreed to share the cost of developing a state-of-the-art stadium, which is likely to entail renovating San Siro over a four year period.

While theoretically they could build an entirely new arena, the most likely option is for both to remain at the Meazza, but with a complete makeover.

Zhang: ‘Inter and Milan should share’

Following yesterday’s comments by Milan President Paolo Scaroni, Inter’s Steven Zhang declares “the most sensible thing” is to share San Siro.

The two sides have both played at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza since 1947, and they currently both rent it from the city council.

The Rossoneri abandoned a plan to build a new arena, and in recent weeks it has been reported that talks are taking place to take out a joint 99 year lease.

Mayor: 'Inter more solid than Milan'

Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala discussed San Siro renovations and noted “Inter have more solid ownership, while Milan’s situation is objectively more difficult.”

The two clubs share use of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza – commonly referred to as San Siro – though it is owned and run by the local council.

“We need San Siro to be different to what it is today, a stadium that is more attractive and can call in tourists or visitors during the week as well as on match days.

Mayor: ‘Milan want a new stadium’

The mayor of Milan reveals Milan “are still looking for areas” for a new stadium, while Inter still want to stay at San Siro.

The Nerazzurri had been planning to build a new training ground in the green area Piazza d’Armi, but didn’t turn up to a meeting today to discuss what to do with the area.

“I didn’t hear from any of the parties, but I hoped for Inter’s participation,” Giuseppe Sala said as he left the meeting.

Wedding receptions at San Siro

Couples will soon be able to get hold their wedding receptions at San Siro, celebrating a Milan or Inter-themed ceremony.

While marriages in sports arenas are fairly common in Britain and the United States of America, they are new for Italian football.

La Gazzetta dello Sport notes that from September 2018, the gates of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan will be open for wedding receptions.

There are three options to choose from, seating 80 guests, 400 or even up to 1,000 in a buffet scenario, with the match on in the background.
