More Milan lows than highs

Evaluating Milan's season so far, it's easier to pick out the lowlights than the few high points, writes Richard Hall, but Patrick Cutrone was a beacon of hope.

Milan would have welcomed the winter break more than most, after promise turned into disappointment almost from day one. In the early summer, 60,000 turned up to watch the new and most thought improved Milan squad qualify for the Europa League via two preliminary rounds. The enthusiasm would start to drain as results worsened and the players failed to perform. Now on their second Coach of the season, they will be hoping for a better 2018.

Donnarumma: 'Happy at Milan'

Gianluigi Donnarumma shrugged off transfer speculation after his 100th appearance for Milan. “I have a four-year contract and I’m happy.”

“There was a good reaction after going a goal down,” Donnarumma told Mediaset Premium.

“We did well to fight back and earn an equaliser. It’s wonderful to reach 100 games with Milan."

Gigio brother: My best month

Milan’s Antonio Donnarumma says December will go down as “the best month of my life” after his exploits in the Coppa Italia against Inter.

Gianluigi’s older brother was thrown into the derby after the teenager and Marco Storari both pulled out just before kick-off, and the late bloomer went from being branded a ‘parasite’ to a hero as Milan went on to beat Inter after extra-time.

“I’ve always trained well, in silence,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Inspired Milan's best performance

With the unity, determination and guile we've not seen from Milan in a long time, Matthew Santangelo witnessed the attitude they needed against Inter.

To say Milan Coach Gennaro Gattuso placed a ton of stock in the latest Milan Derby would be an understatement.

In the build-up to Wednesday evening’s pivotal Coppa Italia quarter-final clash at a cold, misty San Siro, the rugged Rossoneri tactician labeled the tie “a World Cup Final” and one that could perhaps change the complexion of their season altogether.

‘Gigio’s brother not a postage parcel’
