D'Anna targets Giaccherini stay

Chievo Coach Lorenzo D’Anna confirms they are in advanced negotiations to sign Emanuele Giaccherini on a permanent basis from Napoli.

The 33-year-old winger arrived on loan in the January transfer window and helped secure their Serie A safety with three goals and three assists in 13 Serie A appearances.

“Giaccherini had a strong impact, even if he is accustomed to far more prestigious clubs than Chievo,” D’Anna told Tuttosport.

ADL: 'Players rejected Napoli'

During his media blitz, Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis suggested they couldn’t sign new players because “they were afraid of never getting to play.”

The patron would appear to be setting the groundwork for Coach Maurizio Sarri’s exit, which could happen because the Chelsea and Arsenal target has a release clause in his contract.

Giaccherini has a thigh strain

Emanuele Giaccherini’s Chievo career started with a bang and is already fizzling out, as he has been diagnosed with a muscular lesion.

The winger on loan from Napoli curled in a sensational free kick for their victory over Cagliari on Saturday.

However, a statement released by the club confirmed tests showed a lesion to the muscle in his left thigh.

It is not yet clear how long he will be out for, but expected to be in the region of three to four weeks.

Giaccherini: Italy career over, but...

Chievo’s Emanuele Giaccherini accepts his Italy career is probably ‘over’ but assures “I haven’t given up and I’ve never closed the door.”

Giaccherini has not played for Italy since Euro 2016, when they lost to Germany on penalties, although the 32-year-old could be set for a late renaissance at Chievo, having recently helped them to a first win since November.

“Going to Juventus means taking on responsibilities that you don’t have to at other clubs,” he told Corriere di Verona.

Giaccherini revives Chievo

The Flying Donkeys finally ended their dismal run with a hard-fought victory at the Stadio Bentegodi.

Alessio Cragno performed heroics on two Inglese headers and was almost caught out on a Leandro Castan back-pass.

Giaccherini: Sarri has a problem

Emanuele Giaccherini claims Napoli will not win anything under Maurizio Sarri after accusing the Coach of neglecting his squad players.

Napoli could regret rigidity

If Juventus pip Napoli to the title, the finger will be pointed at their inability to bring in much-needed cover during the January window, warns Jack Stevens.

The January transfer window provides a fresh opportunity for squads to improve and solidify their season ambitions. Inter, for example, secured the loan of Lisandro Lopez from Benfica after being desperately in need of defensive cover.

Napoli, despite flying high at the top of the table, are in undisputed need of cover for their forward players. Despite this glaringly obvious omission, they failed to sign a single player, and considering the need for them to maintain their momentum, their incompetence in the market could ultimately see the Scudetto slip from their grasp.
