Official: Giampaolo leaves Sampdoria

Sampdoria have officially released Marco Giampaolo from his contract and he is expected to sign for Milan imminently.

The 51-year-old Coach had been in charge of Samp since the summer of 2016 and had one more year to run on his contract, but was allowed to leave following a meeting with President Massimo Ferrero.

A two-year deal with option for a third has been lined up for him at Milan, where he’ll replace outgoing Gennaro Gattuso.

“We thank Marco for the three seasons with us,” President Ferrero told the official club website.

Bakayoko aims Milan parting shot

Tiemoue Bakayoko has fired a parting shot at ex-Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso. “Our relationship was complicated, we didn’t understand each other.”

Bakayoko was for most part a fans’ favourite at Milan, who had a €35m option to make their loan deal for the Chelsea midfielder permanent.

However, the Frenchman fell out of favour after he was late for training and engaged in a touchline row with Gattuso during a match last month.

Giampaolo can rebuild Milan

Marco Giampaolo may not be a household name, but Anthony Barbagallo believes the tactician’s compelling brand of Calcio could help rebuild Milan.

Milanisti must understand that their club is a work in progress. If AC Milan were to appoint the best manager in world football right now, the Rossoneri wouldn’t rapidly return to their 1990s glory days overnight or in the span of a single season. We all saw what happened when they splashed €200m in the transfer market ahead of the 2017-18 campaign – thinking they were instantly going to be a Scudetto challenger.

Paqueta hails 'wonderful' Gattuso

Milan midfielder Lucas Paqueta says working under Gennaro Gattuso was a ‘wonderful’ experience, even if he did not play in his preferred position.

The 21-year-old joined the Rossoneri from Flamengo for €35m in January and lifted spirits at San Siro with fellow new boy Krzysztof Piatek, although he ended the season suspended.

“Working with Gattuso was a wonderful experience,” he told reporters while on international duty.

Report: Inzaghi stays with Lazio

Simone Inzaghi has agreed to stay on the Lazio bench and extend his contract until June 2021, according to La Repubblica and Sky Sport Italia.

His situation had been one of the catalysts behind a Serie A managerial merry-go-round, as he said after lifting the Coppa Italia that he was unsure about his future.

The Biancocelesti held talks with their Coach, then investigated other avenues, above all ex-Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso.

In turn, Inzaghi was linked with Juventus, Milan, Sampdoria, Bologna and Fiorentina for next season.

Sky: Lazio request Gattuso

Lazio are in talks with Gennaro Gattuso to replace Simone Inzaghi after he parted company with Milan, claim Sky Sport Italia.

Transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio maintains another approach was made today towards Gattuso, who took the Rossoneri to fifth place in Serie A, one point adrift of the Champions League.

The 41-year-old has also been linked with Lazio’s rivals Roma, but would seem to be more inclined towards the Biancocelesti side of the city.
