Gattuso: 'I hear from ADL three or four times per day!'

Napoli boss Rino Gattuso says he hears from President Aurelio De Laurentiis “three or four times a day” and isn’t worried about his contract with the club.

The former Milan coach has been with the Partenopei since December, and masterminded a 1-1 draw against Barcelona on Tuesday in the Champions League.

“I have a contract until the end of 2021, with an option to leave from April 30. But today there is no problem with my contract,” said Gattuso in his pre-game press conference.

Gattuso: 'Napoli are tired'

Gennaro Gattuso has revealed that his Napoli players “are tired” after the Barcelona match and expects to learn “what shape we are in” against Torino.

Napoli are coming from a 1-1 draw and a great defensive display against Barcelona in the Champions League, but they will have to regroup immediately when they face the Granata in Serie A tomorrow.

Gattuso has admitted that they weren’t able to train as normal after the tough game and expects another “physical” exam when Torino arrive at the San Paolo.

Gattenaccio comes up short

Gennaro Gattuso’s defensive web almost trapped Barcelona, but Giancarlo Rinaldi worries it’ll be remembered as a missed opportunity for Napoli.

In football, there are no prizes for nearly. For about an hour it looked as if Rino Gattuso’s tactical web might have tied up Barcelona and delivered a spectacular triumph. It certainly wound Arturo Vidal up enough to get himself sent off. But, when your efforts to secure a success by any means unravel, you are really left with nothing much to show for all your hard work.

Gattuso: 'Barcelona couldn't hurt Napoli'

Gennaro Gattuso maintains Barcelona “could’ve been there all night and not scored” against Napoli, other than the single defensive error in this 1-1 draw. "They didn't hurt us, they barely tickled."

Dries Mertens had opened the scoring with a curler from the edge of the box, matching Marek Hamsik’s all-time club scoring record of 121 goals, but Antoine Griezmann got the equaliser on 57 minutes.

Lozano in stands for Barcelona match

Napoli are expected to leave club record signing Hirving Lozano in the stands against Barcelona this evening, effectively cutting him out of the squad.

The Champions League Round of 16 tie kicks off at the Stadio San Paolo at 20.00 GMT.

All reports point to the Mexico international not even earning himself a spot on the bench, so he could watch from the stands.

It’s the latest setback for the 24-year-old, who is Napoli’s most expensive ever signing from PSV Eindhoven for €38m over the summer.

Gattuso: 'Napoli must stand up to Barca'

Gennaro Gattuso hopes to see a fearless Napoli against Barcelona and has admitted that it’s “useless” to man-mark Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi.

The Partenopei coach is preparing for his first Champions League match as a coach and he will face one of the greatest teams in the tournament since the birth of the new format in the competition.

But he wants to see a different Napoli at the San Paolo tomorrow, not the usual one that has struggled to get the results at home in Serie A.

Far from unbeatable Barcelona

Both Barcelona and Napoli have changed coach mid-season, as Martin Mork points out this is probably the best time the Partenopei could've played this tie.

After a turbulent start to the season at Napoli, ironically they couldn’t have picked a better moment to face Barcelona for the first time in history. The Blaugrana arrive at the San Paolo after a week of media speculation and controversy in and around the club. Their talisman Lionel Messi has, on top of it all, admitted that Barca aren’t playing well enough to win the Champions League.
