Calhanoglu: ‘Couldn’t speak to Montella’

Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu says his slow start was partly down to not being able to speak to Vincenzo Montella - “he didn’t speak English”.

The Turkish international joined from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, but initially struggled to adapt to Italian football.

“I made my first trip to Milan by plane,” Calhanoglu recalled, speaking to Forza Milan.

“I was thinking about a new style of football, my new club and my new teammates. It’s a big change coming to a club like Milan, a club with great history.

Gattuso: 'Milan play without soul'

Gennaro Gattuso did not hold back on criticism after Milan lost to Benevento. “It’s clear the team is on a downward spiral and played without soul.”

The Rossoneri were beaten 1-0 at San Siro by the club currently propping up the table and virtually already relegated, even after Cheick Diabate was sent off.

“It’s clear to see the team is on a downward spiral. When you play without soul, you get embarrassed like this,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

Belotti still on Milan radar

Andrea Belotti has battled injuries and difficult form, but Milan should still take a hard look at him, writes Matthew Santangelo

Andrea Belotti’s 2016-17 Serie A campaign put him on the map not only in Italy, but all over Europe due to his tenacity in the final third and knack for finding the net. His 26 goals saw him finish third in the scoring charts behind Edin Dzeko and Dries Mertens, and ahead of household names like Gonzalo Higuain, Mauro Icardi and Ciro Immobile.

These numbers were all indicative of a breakout few expected early on in his career, prompting several clubs to ramp up their efforts last summer in order to lure him away from Turin.
