Montolivo: ‘Didn’t expect Milan problems’

Milan midfielder Riccardo Montolivo admits “nobody expected so many problems” at the start of the season.

The Rossoneri spent big in the summer to sign the likes of Lucas Biglia, Leonardo Bonucci and Nikola Kalinic, but they’re currently in the bottom half of Serie A, 12 points from a Champions League place.

“Nobody expected so many problems,” Montolivo confessed, speaking to Sky.

“That’s why it was difficult to find balance, we’re working to get out of this complicated period.

Mirabelli: ‘Milan won’t buy anyone’

Sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli makes it clear Milan won’t buy anyone this month, but insists “we didn’t overpay for anyone” in the summer.

The Rossoneri revolutionised their squad over the summer with a huge spending spree, but they’re already 12 points off a Champions League place.

Doubts about owner Yonghong Li saw UEFA reject a voluntary agreement on Financial Fair Play, so there won’t be investment in the team in the January transfer window.

Brocchi: ‘Gattuso would beat us up!’

Cristian Brocchi reveals Gennaro Gattuso used to beat up his Milan teammates for stealing his mobile phone and sending “nonsensical messages”.

Happy birthday, Rino Gattuso

Today is the 40th birthday of Milan Coach Rino Gattuso, a World Cup winner with Italy in 2006.

The former midfielder was born in Corigliano Calabro near Cosenza in 1978, and began his career with Perugia.

After 10 appearances for the club, eight of which came in Serie A, he moved to Scotland to join Rangers at the age of 19 in 1997.

Gattuso made 40 appearances in all competitions, but the Gers ended the season trophyless, failing to win the league after nine-in-a-row.

Gattuso: ‘Milan must be a team’

Gennaro Gattuso praises Milan’s ability with the ball but “the problem is they don’t play as a team often enough”.

“I was surprised by the mentality, the desire they’ve shown in training,” Gattuso told Milan TV.

“They’re very willing and I see a lot of application, I think we have to continue on this path.
