Milan need Andre Silva

Andre Silva can’t get a start despite Nikola Kalinic’s struggles, proving the Portugal star has been misused at Milan, writes Matthew Santangelo.

Another new Milan era begins today with Gennaro Gattuso replacing Vincenzo Montella. Big decisions must be made and one of them is giving Andre Silva more of a role in Serie A.

There’s no doubt Milan haven’t had the start they had hoped for in the 2017-18 campaign after splurging north of €200m on nearly a dozen new names this past summer. Currently, the Rossoneri find themselves in seventh place on 20 points, trailing Roma by 14 for the fourth and final Champions League spot they sought to obtain under new ownership.

Gattuso and De Zerbi meet again

Milan’s trip to Benevento sees Gennaro Gattuso face Roberto De Zerbi, with the last meeting in the Lega Pro play-offs in 2016.

Ringhio has been appointed as Rossoneri Coach after Vincenzo Montella was sacked, and today is his first match on the bench.

In the other dugout is De Zerbi, who is looking to win the Stregoni their first ever Serie A point after a run of 14 defeats.

This isn’t the first time the two Coaches have met though, as they were on opposing sides for the Lega Pro (third division) play-off final.

Fiorentina seek Locatelli loan

Fiorentina are eager to take Manuel Locatelli on loan from Milan, potentially with an option to buy at the end of the season.

According to La Nazione newspaper, the midfielder – who turns 20 next month – has caught the eye of director Pantaleo Corvino and Coach Stefano Pioli.

Locatelli came up through the Rossoneri academy, but has struggled for playing time since the spending spree brought in the likes of Lucas Biglia and Franck Kessie.

Miha: Toro need Belotti, Milan...

Sinisa Mihajlovic says Torino need more from Andrea Belotti and that Coaches are divided into two groups – “those that are sacked and those that will be.”

Torino face Atalanta on Saturday, having scored just 18 goals in their opening 14 games, while Vincenzo Montella – Mihajlovic’s Milan successor – was sacked earlier in the week and replaced by Gennaro Gattuso.

“Niang didn’t train, he took a blow that’s stopped him from running well,” the Serb said at a Press conference.

Sacchi praises Gattuso character

Arrigo Sacchi has praised Gennaro Gattuso’s character but refused to pass judgment on how the new Milan boss would fare.

Gattuso was surprisingly confirmed as Vincenzo Montella’s successor earlier in the week, but while Sacchi felt the former Milan midfielder had the right profile to do well, he also suggested the Rossoneri’s players had to step up.

“He’s a good guy, intelligent, prepared,” the coaching veteran told La Stampa.

“Do Milan have the right players? In football, everything starts from them.”

The former midfielder was appointed as Vincenzo Montella’s replacement this week, and Gazzetta dello Sport spoke to the man who fired him after just eight games with the Rosanero.

“He was early on in his experience as a Coach,” Zamparini explained of Gattuso’s time in Sicily.

“I chose him because of his great temperament and basically the fact his name is Gattuso.

Milan try Biglia-Montolivo

The new boss has already confirmed that he’ll play three at the back, with four men across the midfield, but the attacking shape is up for debate.

Today, Sky reports, Gattuso experimented with a 3-4-3 with Biglia and Montolivo anchoring the central midfield and Suso, Nikola Kalinic and Giacomo Bonaventura as the trident.
