Why do Milan always bring the drama?

The Rossoneri beat Bologna, but the drama-filled affair was a microcosm of the 2018-19 season under Gennaro Gattuso, writes Matthew Santangelo.

For better or for worse, it has been yet another headline-grabbing, drama-packed soap opera season for Gennaro Gattuso and his Milan, with as many ups as downs.

Leonardo on Bakayoko and 'investment'

Milan director Leonardo promised Tiemoue Bakayoko will be “dealt with in-house” and warned fans “there won’t be any big investments.”

The 2-1 win over Bologna was overshadowed by an incident in the first half, when Lucas Biglia limped off injured and Bakayoko took so long to get warmed up that Gennaro Gattuso instead told Jose Mauri to come on.

The pair then exchanged ugly words on the touchline, with the Chelsea-owned midfielder visibly swearing at his Coach.

Milan ritiro 'the last straw'

Gennaro Gattuso’s decision to send Milan into ritiro was reportedly the result of several issues with his squad.

It was initially reported by Sky Sport Italia that Gattuso took the measure after Tiemoue Bakayoko was over an hour late for training on Wednesday.

However, the broadcaster has since followed up that the incident was the Coach’s final straw, it being the latest in a ‘series’ of poor shows from his players.
