Sacchi: ‘Intensity to beat Madrid’

Former Milan Coach Arrigo Sacchi believes Napoli need “greater intensity” to turn around their tie with Real Madrid.

Maurizio Sarri’s side were beaten 3-1 at the Bernabeu in the first leg of their Champions League Last 16 tie, and welcome the Spaniards to San Paolo on Tuesday.

“At the Bernabeu I saw positioning errors and insufficient pressing,” Sarri explained to Il Mattino.

Sacchi: ‘Napoli defensive errors’

Arrigo Sacchi believes Napoli should be focusing on their “defensive errors” against Juventus.

The Partenopei were beaten 3-1 in Turin on Tuesday night, but were enraged by two penalties awarded to the hosts.

Controversy has been raging ever since the game, with even the mayor of Naples weighing-in, but the former Milan Coach believes they should sort out their defence first.

“Juventus have a great history of winning,” Sacchi pointed out in an interview with Il Mattino.

Baggio: The People's Champion

While Italian football is so often dominated by petty partisanship, Roberto Baggio rose above the fray. Susy Campanale salutes the Divine Ponytail on his 50th birthday.

The one good thing about getting old is that you can brag about seeing the greats in their heyday. Ah you young whippersnappers won’t fully grasp what it was like to see a star at his peak. It’s more than brief fuzzy YouTube clips or those new-fangled gifs they’ve got nowadays. Roberto Baggio was poetry in motion.

Sacchi: 'Barca are dead, Juve step in'

“The Barcelona King is dead and Juventus can slip on to the throne,” mused Arrigo Sacchi of the Champions League race.

The first leg ties in the Round of 16 provided many talking points for former Milan and Italy tactician Sacchi, above all Barcelona’s 4-0 mauling by Paris Saint-Germain.

“The Barcelona King is dead,” declared Sacchi in La Gazzetta dello Sport. “There is another sovereign who continues to impose his rule, Real Madrid, but also space for a newcomer to slip on to the throne.

Gullit: ‘Juventus can win CL’

Milan legend Ruud Gullit believes Juventus “can do it” in the Champions League this season.

The Bianconeri have won five Scudetti in a row, as well as two consecutive victories in the Coppa Italia, but European success has so far eluded them.

“They can do it,” Gullit told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I already saw them in the final in Berlin [in 2015] and I can’t pick a favourite this year. The most important thing is to get to the end of the season in top form.”
