Sacchi: 'Napoli blessing for Serie A'

Arrigo Sacchi called Napoli “a blessing for Serie A and for football in general,” whereas Juventus “aren’t always spectacular.”

The two sides are locked in a battle for the Scudetto with only two points separating them at the top of the table.

“Juventus have many values, but it goes without saying that they aren’t always spectacular in the way they play,” Sacchi told Mediaset Premium.

Sacchi: ‘Calcio needs a style’

Legendary Coach Arrigo Sacchi laments “until we have a style” it’ll be hard for Serie A teams to improve in Europe.

Both Roma and Juventus have qualified for the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League, the first time in 11 years that two Italian teams have made it to this stage.

However, the former Milan boss was in no mood to get carried away, insisting calcio is still behind in Europe.

“Until we have a style it’ll be hard for us to improve,” Sacchi said on Premium Sport.

Sacchi: You can’t buy ideas…

Arrigo Sacchi has accused a “very weak” Paris Saint-Germain of being “just a group of individuals” and warned them “ideas can’t be bought.”

PSG were comprehensively defeated 5-2 on aggregate by Real Madrid in the Champions League last 16, barely putting up a fight in Tuesday’s second leg, and Sacchi did not mince his words when assessing the French giants.

Real Madrid and PSG on Sarri

The list of clubs interested in Napoli Coach Maurizio Sarri keeps growing, with Chelsea, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid.

Sarri has taken Napoli to the top of the Serie A table, but above all earned praise for his playing style from the likes of Pep Guardiola and Arrigo Sacchi.

He is only on a salary worth €1.4m per year and the club is due to offer a new contract, also removing the €8m release clause.

‘Napoli deserve Scudetto, but…’

Arrigo Sacchi believes Maurizio Sarri deserves to lead Napoli to the Scudetto but doubts they can stay ahead of Juventus.

With just over half of the season gone the Partenopei are top of Serie A, one point and one place above Max Allegri’s team.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Milan Coach heaped praise on Sarri for the job he has done at the San Paolo despite a lack of ‘top players’ to work with.

“Sarri has taken Napoli into the future,” the legendary ex-Rossoneri boss said.

Happy Birthday AC Milan!

On this day in 1899, Italy's most successful European side, AC Milan, was founded.

The club was created by two English expats, Alfred Edwards and Herbert Kilpin, using the English name for the city rather than the Italian, Milano.

Kilpin was the club's first captain and gave the Rossoneri their famous red and black stripes "to strike fear into our opponents".

Milan won three league titles in the early years of the club, including back-to-back triumphs in 1906 and 1907.

Sacchi in Allegri dig?

Arrigo Sacchi has seemingly blamed Max Allegri for Paulo Dybala’s poor Juventus form. “Not even Lionel Messi would’ve touched the ball against Napoli.”

Dybala’s failure to score in Juve’s 2-0 win at Olympiacos meant he had gone the entire group stage of the Champions League without a goal, but Sacchi suggested Allegri’s tactics were not getting the best out of the Argentine attacker.

Sacchi critical of Juve tactics

Arrigo Sacchi has criticised Juventus’ tactics in Friday’s win over Napoli, saying their victory ‘wouldn’t be celebrated in Spain.’

The former Milan and Italy Coach believes Max Allegri’s team should have displayed more attacking intent after Gonzalo Higuain’s early goal gave them the lead at the San Paolo – despite the Old Lady hanging on to claim a vital three points.

“They won, yes, but with a goal scored in the first 15 minutes,” Sacchi told Corriere del Mezzogiorno.

Sacchi praises Gattuso character

Arrigo Sacchi has praised Gennaro Gattuso’s character but refused to pass judgment on how the new Milan boss would fare.

Gattuso was surprisingly confirmed as Vincenzo Montella’s successor earlier in the week, but while Sacchi felt the former Milan midfielder had the right profile to do well, he also suggested the Rossoneri’s players had to step up.

“He’s a good guy, intelligent, prepared,” the coaching veteran told La Stampa.

“Do Milan have the right players? In football, everything starts from them.”

‘Napoli-Juve can boost Italian football’

Arrigo Sacchi believes Friday’s Serie A bout between Napoli and Juventus can go some way towards alleviating the disappointment of Italy’s World Cup failure.

The San Paolo showdown sees the top two in Italy lock horns, and Sacchi hopes the match can be a good advert for football in the country after the Azzurri’s disastrous World Cup playoff.

“I’d like to see a game that can give some pleasure back to our football after the huge disappointment of not qualifying for the World Cup,” the legendary Coach told La Stampa.
