Andre Silva: 'Still a Milan player'

Andre Silva does “not know what the future holds” with Milan or Sevilla after scoring in Portugal’s 3-2 Nations League win over Poland.

The striker has found the net twice in as many Nations League matches to put Portugal five points clear at the top of the group.

“I am happy for the goal and it is a special moment for me, but the important thing was to emerge with the three points,” he told Sport Mediaset.

Can Serie A end Europa drought?

With no Italian team winning the competition in 20 years, Vilizar Yakimov analyses the Lazio’s and Milan’s chances of ending this painfully long run this term.

Twenty years. Yes, it has been that long since an Italian club has won the Europa League or the UEFA Cup as it was known in 1998-99 when the legendary Parma team lifted the trophy. Sadly, an Italian side has even failed to qualify for the final of the competition since that remarkable 3-0 victory that the Ducali earned against Olympique Marseille at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

Silva won’t rule out Milan return

Andre Silva maintains ‘I’m a Milan player until at least June’ but admits he has ‘no answers’ for his difficult first season at San Siro.

Silva joined Milan for €38m in the summer of 2017 but netted just two Serie A goals for the Rossoneri last season and has since pitched up at Sevilla, where his seven strikes put him top of the scoring charts in La Liga.

“I didn’t expect to score seven goals and all these victories,” the striker told Calciomercato.com.

Monchi: Kluivert an ‘investment’

Monchi admits ‘the Monchi of Sevilla doesn’t work at Roma’ but feels Justin Kluivert is an ‘investment’ for the club.

Monchi’s recruitment has come under fire after Roma’s poor start to the season, and the sporting director touched on several hot topics in an interview with El Mundo.

“If Real Madrid didn’t buy big after selling Cristiano Ronaldo then it’s because they already have the best players in their team: Isco, Bale, Benzema, Modric, Kross, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo and more,” he explained.

Montella: ‘Don’t know when I’ll return’

Vincenzo Montella admits “I don’t know when I’ll return to the bench”, and confesses to viewing Milan “with a bit of melancholy”.

The former striker was sacked by the Rossoneri last season, and was then also given the bullet by Sevilla after a brief spell there.

“I don’t know when I’ll return to the bench,” Montella admitted on Radio Anch'io Sport.

“Now I’m enjoying my holidays and time with my family. I’m very calm and serene, so we’ll see.

Barcelona targeting Monchi

Multiple Italian sources claim Barcelona are trying to poach Roma director of sport Monchi after reports of Manchester United interest.

The former Sevilla director only joined last year, but both the Corriere dello Sport and Gazzetta dello Sport suggest his family is eager for a return to Spain.

This would rule out Manchester United, who have also approached Juventus director of sport Fabio Paratici.

Sevilla: ‘We want Andre Silva’

Sevilla’s sporting director confirms they want to sign André Silva outright from Milan but “the price of a player depends on how he performs”.

The Spanish side signed the youngster on loan with an option to buy after a difficult year in Serie A, with reports the buyout is set at €30m.

“We have a right of redemption and we hope to exercise it,” Joaquin Caparros told Estadio Deportivo.

“It doesn’t matter how much we have to pay, the price of a player depends on how he performs.”

Silva: 'No friends on the pitch'

Andre Silva felt Portugal were “the better team on the night” against Italy and told Gianluigi Donnarumma “there are no friends on the pitch.”

The former Milan striker, who is on loan at Sevilla with option to buy, scored the only goal in Lisbon for the Nations League encounter.

“We were expecting a strong Italy performance, but we were up to it and did well to neutralise them,” the current Sevilla forward told RTP.

Silva still a stranger to Italy

Andre Silva has a point to prove with Portugal against Italy, as Richard Hall wonders where it went wrong for him at Milan.

As Andre Silva wheeled away in celebration after completing his debut hat-trick against Rayo Vallecano, many in Portugal, Spain and especially Italy, scratched their heads. The Portuguese forward had started his La Liga campaign by showing that he could fulfil the promise in him, but why could he not do this for the Rossoneri?

Why did a player with such obvious talent fail to make a mark in Serie A? This leads to the question of whether the Milanese moved him on to quickly, or was this union simply never going to work?

Milan 'lacked faith in Andre Silva'

Andre Silva failed to make an impact at Milan because “they didn’t put enough faith” in the Portugal international, said Nuno Gomes.

He scored 10 goals in 40 competitive games for the club, but only two of those were in Serie A.

On the other hand, he netted a hat-trick on his full Sevilla debut during the loan with option to buy, and will be eager to show what he can do in the Nations League clash between Italy and Portugal tomorrow.
