‘No new Inter, Milan stadium’

The mayor of Milan is “pessimistic” about the chances of Inter or Milan building a new stadium, and says they should concentrate on San Siro.

The Rossoneri had a plan to build a new ground in the Portello area of the city, but it collapsed as costs were higher than originally thought.

That led to the Nerazzurri considering moving out of San Siro, but the city’s mayor says both clubs should work on improving San Siro.

Inter: 'San Siro renovation vital'

Inter President Erick Thohir and board member Steven Zhang confirmed their intention to renovate San Siro.

The project has been talked about since Chinese giants Suning Commerce Group bought out the majority shares of the club.

“A new San Siro is vitally important to Inter,” Thohir told the official club website.

Italy-Germany at San Siro

The FIGC has announced that Italy will face Germany in a friendly at San Siro in November.

The Azzurri were knocked out of Euro 2016 but Jogi Low’s side, going out on penalties in the Quarter-Final after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Today it has been announced that the match on Tuesday November 15 will be played at San Siro, the first Italy game played there since the 1-1 draw with Croatia in Euro 2016 qualifying.

Despite losing their last match to Germany, the Azzurri have a positive record overall, winning 15, drawing 11 and losing just eight.

San Siro '5 star' renewal

The renewal of the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza for the Champions League final brings its UEFA ranking from 4.5 to 5 stars.

Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will face each other tomorrow evening in a refurbished version of Milan's San Siro.

The renovation plan which began in 2012 has now been completed, and the UEFA exams of the structure's conditions were fully passed. The Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the ranking of the stadium has now been raised from 4.5 to 5 stars.

Simeone: ‘San Siro is pure football’

Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone describes San Siro as “pure football” ahead of the Champions League final.

Simeone’s side will take on their city rivals Real Madrid on Saturday, and having played for Inter, the Argentinian knows what to expect.

“I’m happy to be playing a final at San Siro, because it’s pure football,” Simeone said in an interview with Premium Sport.

UEFA: ‘Problems with San Siro pitch’

UEFA’s Senior Match Operations Manager says San Siro’s pitch isn’t “up to the level it needs to be for the Champions League final”.

The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan will host the showpiece match between Atletico Madrid and their city rivals Real on May 28, but there are concerns about the surface.

“We are facing a lot of challenges to get this pitch up to the level it needs to be for the Champions League final,” Keith Dalton revealed in a speech at the World Stadium Congress in Doha.

Kondogbia: ‘Definitely staying at Inter’

Geoffrey Kondogbia assures “I'm definitely staying at Inter”, and believes Serie A is “more tactical” than Ligue 1.

The midfielder joined the Nerazzurri from Monaco last summer, having also spent time with Sevilla.

Bolingbroke: ‘Serie A must change’

Inter chief executive Michael Bolingbroke calls on Serie A to be more open to global markets.

The Nerazzurri chief believes the Italian top-flight should have earlier kick-off times in order to appeal to the vast Asian market, as well as improving stadiums.

Milan and Inter directors reportedly held a three-hour meeting last night to begin discussing ways of modernising San Siro.

The Rossoneri had originally hoped to construct their own brand new stadium in the Portello area of the city, but those plans fell through and the clubs must continue to share the iconic stadium.
