Milan and Inter stadium concepts

There are two final designs for the new Milan and Inter stadium, one that changes colour and the other inspired by the Duomo.

The design concepts were presented in a Press conference, livestreamed this morning.

Manica/Sportium’s design includes glass skyscrapers next to the arena, which has fully covered seating areas, but no roof over the pitch itself.

The design would allow it to continue hosting music events with large screens erected in the centre, for performances in the round.

LIVE: Milan and Inter present stadium

Milan and Inter are presenting their proposal for a new arena that will replace the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza at San Siro.

The two clubs have come together to build a new stadium, which will be right next to the current Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, so still technically in the San Siro area of the city.

The Mayor of Milan gave them the option of buying the Stadio Meazza so they could reconstruct it, but a study showed the costs of the operation along with the amount of time they’d have to play elsewhere during work, simply made it unfeasible.

Inter and Milan 'optimistic' on stadium

Inter and Milan “are working together and are very optimistic on the new stadium project” after a meeting with the local authorities.

Despite the Mayor of Milan offering to sell the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza to the two clubs for restructuring, both Serie A giants agreed that the problems within the arena simply go too deep.

It’d be cheaper and more cost-efficient to build a whole new stadium, which would still be in the San Siro area.

Milan and Inter reject San Siro sale

Despite the Mayor offering to sell the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza for €70m, it’s reported Inter and Milan still want to build a new arena.

The debate over the next step in the city of Milan continues, as the iconic structure either needs a great deal of refurbishment or will be torn down and replaced by a new stadium.

Mayor of Milan Beppe Sala announced the local authorities were prepared to sell the Stadio Meazza to the two clubs for just €70m – approximately the cost of bringing Romelu Lukaku to Inter from Manchester United.

'Council could sell San Siro'

Milan mayor Beppe Sala has confirmed that his council is ‘willing’ to sell San Siro to the Rossoneri and Inter for the right price.

San Siro is currently owned by the city of Milan, but its two tenants are increasingly keen on the idea of building their own stadium.

With that in mind, Sala has offered Milan and Inter an alternative to going through with a private build.

“Right now, there are two possibilities on the table: a [new] stadium in San Siro or a stadium in Sesto San Giovanni,” he told Corriere della Sera.

Moratti: 'Can't lose San Siro'

Former Inter President Massimo Moratti understands the need for a modern stadium, but cannot conceive of Milan without the San Siro structure.

Both Inter and Milan are eager to build their own arena, which would involve tearing down the iconic Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, but the plans on what to do and when remain extremely hazy.

“It should be sorted out straight away, so it’s only right that all the authorities, but above all the people of Milan, know what the final projects and scenarios are,” Moratti told the Corriere della Sera newspaper.
