Feyenoord return for Karsdorp

Roma are in negotiations to send Rick Karsdorp back to Feyenoord, but it remains to be seen whether there’s an option to buy.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, a return to the Netherlands is practically guaranteed in the January window.

They are still discussing the formula of the deal, as Roma want it to be a straight six-month loan so he can regain fitness and confidence after numerous injury problems.

Feyenoord would prefer there to be an option to buy at the end of the season.

Feyenoord ask for Karsdorp

Feyenoord pocketed €14m for Rick Karsdorp in 2017, but are now asking to take the Roma defender back on loan.

It’s safe to say Karsdorp has been a flop for the Giallorossi since becoming one of Monchi’s first buys.

Due to various injuries and poor form, he has made a grand total of four appearances in a Roma jersey, playing a total 201 minutes of football.

He is still only 23 years old and remains a Netherlands international, so can be offloaded in January.

Roma defender Rick Karsdorp could reportedly be loaned back to Feyenoord in January.

The full-back joined the Giallorossi in the summer of 2017, but he made only one appearance last season after a series of knee issues.

This season he has been criticised by Coach Eusebio Di Francesco, and appears to be behind Alessandro Florenzi and Davide Santon for the right-back slot.

Now Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting that he could be loaned back to his former club in January.

Napoli too shallow to succeed

Maurizio Sarri’s football depends on consistency, writes Jack Stevens, and that cost him the Champions League, but could it damage Scudetto prospects too?

As rumours circulated that Pep Guardiola texted Maurizio Sarri proclaiming that Manchester City would “do their best” to secure a win against Shakhtar Donetsk, you’d have been hard pressed to find anyone who would have predicted the eventual outcome on bettinglounge. A simple three points for City and a routine dispatching of Feyenoord by Napoli would have seen the darlings of football hipster culture waltz through to the last 16, just as the script set out.
