Zoff: 'Perin future of Italy side'

Italy legend Dino Zoff believes Genoa’s Mattia Perin is the “future of the Nazionale” and not Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Gigi Buffon turns 40 later this month and will soon have to make way for the next generation of goalkeepers.

According to Zoff, who won the 1982 World Cup at the age of 40, there is one player who stood out among the rest.

“I think Perin is ready for a big club like Napoli, but he’d do well to wait until the end of the season,” Zoff told Il Mattino newspaper.

Genoa: ‘Perin won’t leave in January’

Genoa director general Giorgio Perinetti says Armando Izzo and Mattia Perin won’t leave in January unless they get “ridiculous offers”.

Both players have been linked with a move away from the Griffon this month, but they’re struggling against relegation and lie just six points above the drop zone.

“Izzo is a very important player and we want to keep him,” Perinetti explained to Sky.

Napoli prefer Rulli to Perin?

Napoli were reportedly offered Mattia Perin by Genoa, but they still prefer Geronimo Rulli of Real Sociedad.

Goalkeeper Pepe Reina is almost certain to leave at the end of the season, as his contract is expiring and Partenopei President Aurelio De Laurentiis doesn’t want to offer more than a year on a new one.

It appeared last summer that the Spaniard would move to Paris Saint-Germain, which saw Napoli pursue Rulli as a replacement.

Ultimately Reina remained at the San Paolo, but the club still need to find a long-term replacement.

Napoli move for Perin

Reports suggest Napoli are negotiating with Genoa over a transfer for goalkeeper Mattia Perin.

Pepe Reina’s contract is up at the end of the season, and it doesn’t appear the Spaniard will be offered a new deal.

According to Il Mattino, the Partenopei are looking to close a deal for Perin in January, though he’d stay with the Grifone until the summer.

There’s already a draft agreement with Genoa worth around €10m, and Napoli hope to definitively conclude the deal in the coming weeks.

Perin not enough for Genoa

The goalkeeper pulled off two amazing blocks either side of half time, but goals from Josip Ilicic and Andrea Masiello cancelled out Andrea Bertolacci’s fourth-minute opener.
