Benfica end Perin interest

Benfica admit it is “unlikely” they will return for Juventus goalkeeper Mattia Perin in January after his failed medical.

Benfica passed up Perin over the summer after a shoulder problem came up during medical tests, but the Portuguese champions suggested they would wait for the 26-year-old if he made a full recovery.

However, President Luis Filipe Vieira told TVI: “I have to say that I’ve never seen a situation like it.

Report: Monaco keen on Perin

Monaco are reportedly keen on signing Juventus goalkeeper Mattia Perin after his proposed transfer to Benfica fell through.

Perin was all set for Benfica until they pulled out of a deal, citing a shoulder problem in his medical.

Aston Villa then held talks with the 26-year-old last week, but the Premier League side ultimately brought in Tom Heaton from Burnley.

Consequently, Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nicolo Schira writes that has left the path clear for Monaco to make their move.

Benfica: From Perin to Olsen?

Benfica have reportedly switched their attentions to Roma goalkeeper Robin Olsen after passing up Juventus’ Mattia Perin.

Benfica are no longer expected to sign Perin after giving a different assessment of his shoulder injury.

With that in mind, A Bola writes they are now targeting Olsen.

The Swede was dropped by the Giallorossi last season after a series of high-profile errors and has since been replaced by Pau Lopez.

Report: Benfica pull Perin plug

Benfica are reportedly ready to pull the plug on Mattia Perin’s proposed €15m transfer from Juventus, with Monaco waiting in the wings.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Benfica are only prepared to sign Perin in January so he can fully recover from a shoulder injury.

However, Juve do not intend to renegotiate the terms of his move, leading Gazzetta dello Sport to claim the deal is about to break down.

If that happens, the newspaper tips Monaco to possibly swoop in for the 26-year-old.

A failed Benfica medical was just the latest setback for Mattia Perin, as Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall profiles the troubled goalkeeper.

The career of Mattia Perin feels like it should have been much more-straight forward. Perin statement annoyed Juve

Sky Sport Italia claim Benfica infuriated Juventus with their statement on Mattia Perin’s failed medical, so FC Porto are ready to step in.

The rumours were circulating that the goalkeeper’s medical tests flagged up some issues, but negotiations were seemingly continuing behind the scenes.

The idea was and remains to make this a loan with obligation to buy once Perin has made several competitive appearances for Benfica.
