Simeone: 'More than deserved draw'

Diego Simeone maintains Atletico Madrid’s point against Juventus in a 2-2 draw was “more than deserved. I don’t see it as a good or bad result.”

The Bianconeri were 2-0 up with Juan Cuadrado and Blaise Matuidi goals, but Atleti fought back with two headers from set plays courtesy of Stefan Savic and Hector Herrera.

All-change at the Wanda Metropolitano

Both Juventus and Atletico Madrid have transformed since their Champions League clash six months ago, explains Emmet Gates.

What can change in six months? In football: pretty much everything. Seismic shifts can occur in players and clubs within a short period of time, let alone half a year.

It has indeed been half a year since Juventus, due to Cristiano Ronaldo’s sheer force of will power, overturned Atletico Madrid’s two-goal, first leg advantage to qualify for the quarter final of the Champions League. And it’s fair to say both clubs have changed substantially since then.

Godin: Conte like Simeone

Diego Godin believes Inter and Antonio Conte share “many things” with Diego Simeone and his title-winning Atletico Madrid side of 2013-14.

Godin was a key member of Simeone’s Atleti between 2010 and 2019, helping them win La Liga and two Europa Leagues, as well as reach two Champions League Finals.

The defender joined Inter over the summer, and he suggested Conte’s presence helped him make his mind up.

“I see many things in this Inter that remind me of the Atletico side who won La Liga in 2013-14,” he told DAZN.

Simeone: Sarri & I need time

Diego Simeone says he and Maurizio Sarri “need time” to rebuild Atletico Madrid and Juventus and is wary of facing “goal animal” Cristiano Ronaldo again.

The two sides are very different from their Round-of-16 tie last season as Juve replaced Max Allegri with the more modern Maurizio Sarri, while Simeone made several changes to his squad.

“Allegri was at Juve for five years, Sarri’s been there for two months. Adaptation takes time, and the same applies us,” Cholo said at a Press conference.

Atleti open to Correa exit

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has confirmed that Milan target Angel Correa could leave this month. “We’re open to anything that can happen.”

Correa has been heavily linked to Milan for some time, although the Rossoneri need to sell Suso before they can finance a deal.

In the meantime, the forward has been active during preseason and came on as a substitute during the Spaniards’ 2-1 win against Juventus last night.

Godin: 'Inter like Atletico Madrid'

Diego Godin sees “parallels” between Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone and Inter boss Antonio Conte, plus rivalry with “disrespectful” Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Uruguay international joined as a free agent after his Atletico Madrid contract expired and is settling into life at San Siro.

Atleti gesture gets Ronaldo banned?

There are increasing reports in Spain that Atletico Madrid will ask UEFA to investigate Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo for his ‘offensive’ celebration.

This sort of action could lead to a ban of anything between one and three games.

CR7 made the gesture after completing his hat-trick in a 3-0 victory over Atleti, securing Juve’s place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Simeone: 'Juventus played better'

Diego Simeone admits “Atletico Madrid didn’t go out because we played badly, but because Juventus played well. You just have to tip your hats to them.”

The Colchoneros had a 2-0 first leg lead going into Turin, but crashed out 3-0 in the second leg of the Round of 16 thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick.

Who does Allegri think he's kidding?

Max Allegri and Juventus fans can’t possibly believe crashing out of the Champions League Round of 16 wouldn’t be “a failure,” notes Jay Cassano.

“If Juventus go out, it won’t be a failure.”

With all due respect to Massimiliano Allegri, he was wrong when he spoke those words. And he knows it. Everyone knows it.

Juventus has been on an incredible domestic run, on the road to what is an all but mathematically certain eighth consecutive Scudetto. A run that included a streak of four domestic doubles from 2014 to 2018.

Chiellini: 'Atleti similar to Juventus'

Giorgio Chiellini assured Juventus are accustomed to pressure going into the Champions League showdown with Atletico Madrid, “the European team most similar to ours.”

The first leg ended 2-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano, but the decider for a place in the Champions League quarter-final is on Tuesday at 20.00 GMT.

“We’re not concerned at the talk of failure, because we have a lot of enthusiasm, are in the Round of 16, so we want to go on to the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final,” said the captain in his Press conference.
