Zamparini: No Kasami regrets

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini insists he has no regrets about selling Pajtim Kasami - despite his Champions League winner against Juventus.

The Swiss midfielder played for the Rosanero in the 2010-11 season, making 14 appearances for the club without scoring a goal.

Kasami moved to Olympiacos from Fulham this summer, and scored the Greeks’ only goal as they beat Juventus 1-0 on Wednesday.

“I don’t regret it [selling Kasami] at all,” Zamparini has told Livesicilia Sport, though.

Battling at the bottom

A round of sackings, protests, comebacks and shock results demonstrated Serie A’s relegation dogfight is already underway, writes Alasdair Mackenzie.

A lot of people will have lost money this weekend. For many, the return of Maurizio Zamparini's Palermo to Serie A this season meant the return of the season's safest bet -  the first sacking.

But it was not to be, as the unfortunate Eugenio Corini was first to be shown the door at Chievo after a 3-0 defeat to Roma on Saturday left the Flying Donkeys with four points from their opening seven fixtures.

“Yes, Mexicans have come to Palermo,” Zamparini has told Tuttosport.

“They spoke with the CEO, Cardinaletti. At the moment they’re looking into possible sponsorship.”

Zamp: Iachini a son to me

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has offered his unconditional backing to Beppe Iachini, claiming the incumbent Coach is ‘like a son’ to him.

The Rosanero supremo, known for his ruthless treatment of tacticians, has been speculated as ready to make another change at the helm, following the side’s winless start to the season.

However, the club owner insists Iachini is not to blame for the Sicilian’s slump and says he will back the former Sampdoria and Brescia boss for at least the next few years.

Reja rejects Palermo role

Palermo will appoint youth team director Dario Baccin as the club’s new sporting director, after Edoardo Reja declined the role, according to reports.

Reja has been unemployed following his departure from Lazio at the end of last season, when he guided the club to ninth place in Serie A.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini spoke to the former Napoli Coach about taking on a role at the Renzo Barbera, but not to replace Giuseppe Iachini on the bench, as some rumours in recent weeks had speculated.
