Zamparini: 'I'll try to sign Cassano'

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has reiterated his ambition to sign Antonio Cassano in the wake of his fall out with Sampdoria.

Zamparini was one of the first to declare his interest in offering Cassano a new challenge after Sampdoria asked that his contract be rescinded following a foul-mouthed tirade aimed at Riccardo Garrone last week.

Interviewed on Sky Italia, Zamparini was pressed on whether he is serious about signing the 28-year-old enigma.

Zampa prompted Sabatini to quit

Maurizio Zamparini's repeated criticism of Palermo Coach Delio Rossi is what prompted the club's director of sport Walter Sabatini to hand in his resignation.

Sabatini's decision to quit the Rosanero was put down to 'strictly personal reasons' in a statement released by the club yesterday morning.

However, it appears that he had grown frustrated with Zamparini's treatment of Rossi, the man he appointed in November last year.

'Palermo would sign Cassano'

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has said he would be interested in signing Sampdoria star Antonio Cassano.

The 28-year-old playmaker looks set to leave Marassi after falling out with Riccardo Garrone last week.

Sampdoria have asked to rescind the player's contract even though Cassano has since apologised.

Speaking to Radio Radio, Zamparini said: "I would very willingly sign Cassano.

"He once told me in the past that he wanted to come to Palermo.

"If he wants I'll sign him straightaway."
