Official: SPAL buy Petagna

SPAL have announced permanent deals for four players, including last season’s top goalscorer Andrea Petagna.

Petagna joined SPAL from Atalanta last summer on loan for €3m with a €12m obligation to buy if they avoided relegation.

The striker played a key role in that, scoring 16 Serie A goals for the Biancazzurri, and he has since been signed outright.

'Bruno Fernandes ready for Man City'

Cristiano Giaretta, the man who brought Bruno Fernandes to Italy for €20,000, believes the Sporting Lisbon midfielder is “ready” for his €50m move to Manchester City.

It is widely reported today that City are set to splash out around €50m for the 24-year-old, ahead of interest from cross-town rivals Manchester United, who had identified the youngster as a replacement for Ander Herrera.

Sansone history in Azerbaijan

Gianluca Sansone will become the first ever Italian player in Azerbaijan after flying in to sign for Neftci Baku.

It is an interesting career twist for the 31-year-old centre-forward, who is currently a free agent after terminating his contract with Serie B side Novara in January.

According to multiple sources including Sportitalia and the Gazzetta dello Sport, Sansone is already in Azerbaijan and will sign the contract to June 2020 after a medical this morning.

He will be the first ever Italian player to sign for an Azerbaijani club.

Lazio: 'Ignore minority racist fans'

Lazio spokesman Arturo Diaconale insists reporting racist and Anti-Semitic chants is “a form of psychosis focusing on either a minority or non-existent incidents.”

There have been several examples of offensive chants, posters and banners in recent weeks, involving Inter, Roma and Lazio ultras.

Viali: 'Novara demoralised'

Novara Coach William Viali admits his team “became demoralised” too early into their 4-1 Coppa Italia defeat to Lazio.

The Serie C outfit were surprise participants in the Round of 16, having eliminated Perugia, Brescia and Pisa.

“We did well in the opening stages, but after going 2-0 down, we got demoralised and I didn’t like that attitude,” Viali told Rai Sport.

Lazio flattened Serie C side Novara 4-1 to reach the Coppa Italia quarter-final, where they will face either Inter or Benevento.

The Aquile chose a full-strength line-up, missing Joaquin Correa with flu, plus suspended Danilo Cataldi, Alessandro Rossi and Stefan Radu. Serie C outfit Novara had eliminated Perugia, Brescia and Pisa to reach the Round of 16, but had to do without suspended Angelo Tartaglia and Pablo Andres Gonzalez, while Daniele Cacia, Tommaso Bianchi and Diego Peralta were injured.

Tare: 'Lazio care about the Coppa'

Igli Tare said the line-up chosen by Lazio against Novara confirms “how much we care about the Coppa Italia.”
