Montipò: 'Buffon gave me his shirt'

Benevento goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò had Juventus hero Gianluigi Buffon’s shorts from his time as a ball boy at Novara, on Sunday, he received the shirt.

Montipò, who was one of the protagonists in the 1-0 win over Juventus last weekend, admitted he has idolised Buffon since he was little and explained how he managed to get the World Cup winner’s shorts when he was a ball boy at Novara.

“At the end of the match that the Bianconeri won 4-0, I managed to get Buffon’s shorts,” Montipò told Il Corriere dello Sport.

Novara President caught with 200,000 cash

The President of Serie C side Novara has resigned after he was caught with an envelope containing €200,000 cash that he was unable to explain.

Marcello Cianci had been in charge of the club since late 2019 and has tended his resignation.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 50-year-old was stopped in his car by police in Reggio Calabria, who found he had an envelope containing €200,000 in cash.

The envelope was hidden inside a box full of food in the SUV.

Juventus started life under Andrea Pirlo with an enthusiastic 5-0 win against Novara. ‘The lads are getting used to the new type of work, they have fun’.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the first goal, before Aaron Ramsey, Marko Pjaca and a brace by Manolo Portanova made it five against the Serie C side.

Paqueta impressive in Milan friendly

Milan fought back from 2-0 down to beat Novara 4-2 in their first pre-season friendly, with Lucas Paqueta’s brace, Diego Laxalt and Davide Calabria goals.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was in the starting XI of Stefano Pioli’s 4-2-3-1 formation, although clearly there were none of the players currently away on international duty.

It was a game split into three 20-minute periods, as they only just started training.

Torino try new faces in friendly

Torino won their first pre-season friendly 4-1 against Novara, with Simone Zaza, Andrea Belotti, Jacopo Segre and Simone Edera on target.

Coach Marco Giampaolo wasted no time introducing the new signings in his 4-3-1-2 formation, with Alex Berenguer behind Belotti and Zaza.

Ricardo Rodriguez started at left-back, with Karol Linetty in midfield.

Zaza opened the scoring after seven minutes by pouncing on a defensive error on the edge of the box, then Belotti finished off a Berenguer assist.

Novara patron has Coronavirus

The owner of Serie C club Novara has tested positive for Coronavirus and is currently in hospital.

Novara released a statement confirming that patron Maurizio Rullo had been diagnosed after returning from a work trip to Germany.

Rullo informed the Lega Serie C, but as he did not have contact with the squad following his return, it was not considered necessary to quarantine the whole team.

This is the second club in Serie C to be affected by the Coronavirus, as Pianese had two players and a member of staff test positive.

Official: SPAL buy Petagna

SPAL have announced permanent deals for four players, including last season’s top goalscorer Andrea Petagna.

Petagna joined SPAL from Atalanta last summer on loan for €3m with a €12m obligation to buy if they avoided relegation.

The striker played a key role in that, scoring 16 Serie A goals for the Biancazzurri, and he has since been signed outright.
