Ranieri: 'Samp kept focus'

Claudio Ranieri praised Sampdoria for “not losing our heads” in their comeback to beat Brescia 5-1. “We stayed sharp and continued playing.”

The Blucerchiati had gone a goal down to Jhon Chancellor’s header, but turned it all around for an eventual 5-1 demolition job.

“Brescia scored at their first chance and it woke us up, so it’s better to concede goals like that at the start than near the end,” said Ranieri in his press conference.

Ranieri wants 'more of the same'

Claudio Ranieri has claimed Sampdoria “can make life difficult for anyone” but expects a “more complicated game” against Brescia on Sunday.

After starting the year with a point against Milan on their return to action on Monday, the coach was happy to see his players continue in the same way against the Rondinelle.

“The match against Milan gave me some answers and made me confident,” Ranieri said at a press conference. “When we play as a team, we can make life difficult for anyone. We must repeat it against Brescia.

Derby of the Damned

Ahead of tonight’s Derby Della Lanterna, Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall looks at just how seismic the result of this game could be.

On the hill of San Benigno lies the Lanterna. The ‘Capo di Faro’ has been a beacon that helped vessels guide their way into the port of Genoa and warmly helped them avoid the rocks. The Derby della Lanterna takes its name from this landmark, and as this festive version of that passionate and raucous game plays out tonight, both teams need the light to avoid floundering amongst the rocks.

Quagliarella: 'Let Samp down'

An “upset” Fabio Quagliarella feels he let Sampdoria down after he missed a penalty against Parma on Sunday.

The club captain had the opportunity to equalise from the penalty spot in the 77th minute but fluffed his lines as the Blucerchiati went on to lose 1-0.

“As captain, I have an important responsibility, I am upset,” Quagliarella told Sky Sport Italia.

“I took the important penalty very poorly. Every penalty is a burden, unfortunately I didn’t hit it like I should’ve and I take the blame.
