Official: Quagliarella extends at Samp

Fabio Quagliarella has officially extended his Sampdoria contract to June 2021, by which point he will be 38 years old.

The striker was Capocannoniere in Serie A last season and so far this term has three goals in 12 league games, along with two assists.

His contract had been due to run down at the end of this season, but Quagliagol put pen to paper on a new deal to June 2021.

By the time that agreement expires, Quagliarella will be 38 years and five months old.

Ranieri: 'Last 15 minutes cost us'

Claudio Ranieri was “amazed” by Sampdoria’s 4-3 defeat to Cagliari last night but felt the “last 15 minutes” cost them all three points.

Samp threw away a 3-1 lead deep in injury time, and Ranieri confessed to having “regrets” after the seven-goal thriller at the Sardegna Arena.

“Tonight was amazing. It’s a shame because we did everything right except for the last 15 minutes,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

Gran Gala del Calcio 2019 winners

The winners for the 2019 Gran Gala del Calcio have been announced, with Atalanta and Juventus scooping up the most awards.

The ceremony took place in Milan on Monday evening, recognising Italian football’s best performers of last season.

Cristiano Ronaldo took home the biggest prize of best player, having helped Juve win their eighth straight Scudetti with his 21 Serie A goals.

Ranieri: 'Cagliari one of the best'

Sampdoria boss Claudio Ranieri believes his side are “playing one of the best teams in the league” when they face Rolando Maran’s Cagliari tomorrow.

“We go to face one of the most in form teams in the league, at home and away. They always play the same way. An interesting game awaits us," said the coach in his press conference.

Ranieri started his long coaching career in Sardinia, where he was coach between 1988 and 1991.

Quags makes Serie A history

Sampdoria striker Fabio Quagliarella made history yesterday as he became the first active, outfied player in Serie A to reach 450 League appearances.

Quagliarella played a key role in Samp’s 2-1 comeback victory over Udinese, winning the decisive penalty that Gaston Ramirez converted.

Although the 36-year-old was taken off with an injury shortly after, he nonetheless upped his tally in Serie A to 450 games.

With that, he became the active, outfield player with the most appearances in Italy’s top flight.

Ranieri: 'Balance first, identity later'

Claudio Ranieri claims “balance” is more important to Sampdoria than forging an identity right now after they beat SPAL 1-0 on Monday.

Gianluca Caprari came off the bench to head in a stoppage-time winner for Samp, and Ranieri felt his players were benefitting from a new-found “belief” in themselves.

Quagliarella stalker jailed

Fabio Quagliarella’s stalker has finally been sentenced to a four-and-a-half-year prison term, as it emerges the Sampdoria forward wasn’t his only victim.

Police took 54-year-old Raffaele Piccolo into custody in Castellammare di Stabia, Quagliarella’s hometown on the outskirts of Naples.

He was a postal inspector who from 2006-10 pretended to be a police officer dealing directly with Quagliarella’s family in the investigation of a stalker.
