EDF: Knives between Samp's teeth

Eusebio Di Francesco confirms Fabio Quagliarella is back for Sampdoria, who must face Inter with “knives between our teeth” tomorrow.

Samp are bottom of Serie A after four defeats from five games and host an Inter side who are top with a 100 percent record.

However, the Blucerchiati have been boosted by the return of Quagliarella after he missed their 2-1 loss to Fiorentina midweek.

“Incidents often affect games,” Di Francesco said at a Press conference.

Quag: Rarely spoke to Giampaolo

Fabio Quagliarella claims he and Milan boss Marco Giampaolo “talked only 5-6 times” during their three years together at Sampdoria.

Quagliarella played arguably his best football under Giampaolo at Samp before the Coach moved to Milan, and the Italy striker was asked to compare him to Inter boss Antonio Conte ahead of the derby on Saturday.

“Antonio Conte improves you in every regard, in terms of character and mentality, the mentality that he only wants to win,” the 36-year-old told DAZN.

Coppa: Samp comeback in Crotone

Sampdoria completed the comeback from an early goal to win 3-1 away to Crotone, with new buy Gonzalo Maroni immediately on target.

The Blucerchiati will face Cagliari in the Fourth Round of the Coppa Italia in December.

It was Crotone who took the surprise lead just eight minutes in when a long ball over the top allowed Salvatore Molina to spring the offside trap, chest it down and beat Emil Audero.

Fabio Quagliarella’s acrobatic attempt whistled wide, as did an Ahmad Benali free header from Molina’s cross.

Sampdoria the surprise package

Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall believes Eusebio Di Francesco’s Sampdoria could be the surprise package this season.

There is more to the Blucerchiati than a madcap owner. In fact, despite Massimo Ferrero’s antics, one could say he isn’t even that mad. The evidence of this was left on the pitch last term as Sampdoria finished ninth with pride.
