Quag: I deserve Italy recall

Sampdoria veteran Fabio Quagliarella insists he has earned his Italy call-up. “This is the national team, there’s no need to give caps away.”

Quagliarella could make his first appearance for nine years during the international break, Italy having recalled the forward on the back of his 21-goal campaign for Samp.

“I’m living through this experience with great enthusiasm and serenity,” the 36-year-old told Rai Sport.

'Giampaolo sticking with Samp, Schick...'

Massimo Ferrero insists Sampdoria boss Marco Giampaolo will stay for at least two more years and accuses Patrik Schick of letting money get to his head.

Giampaolo has been linked with the likes of Inter and Roma but has two more years on his Samp contract, while Ferrero’s old boy Schick has struggled to live up to his club-record transfer fee at the Olimpico.

“We deserve Europe,” the President told RMC Sport.

Mancini: Can't ignore Quagliarella

Italy CT Roberto Mancini has admitted that ‘I couldn’t not call up’ Sampdoria striker Fabio Quagliarella, even if he is ‘getting old’.

Quagliarella is in line to make his first appearance for Italy in eight years against Finland or Liechtensten over the next fortnight, but some have focused on his 36 years of age than his 21 goals for Samp this season…

“Inter had a good game, an excellent match,” Mancini told Domenica Sportiva, referring to the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday.

Quagliarella: 'I'm very enthusiastic'

Fabio Quagliarella celebrated his Italy recall with the 21st Serie A goal and set a new personal best for assists. “I’m very enthusiastic.”

The 36-year-old was on target in Sampdoria’s 5-3 victory away to Sassuolo this afternoon, allowing him to set new records for goals scored (21) and assists (seven) in one Serie A campaign.

Serie A names fill Golden Shoe race
