Roma: Three names to replace Monchi

Walter Sabatini, Carlo Osti and Luis Campos are reportedly the primary candidates to replace Monchi at Roma.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Sampdoria pair Sabatini and Osti are at the top of Roma’s list as Monchi looks set to step down as sporting director.

Sabatini only became Samp’s technical director last summer but worked for the Giallorossi between 2011 and 2017.

‘Sampdoria never talked about Europe’

Sampdoria sporting director Carlo Osti insists “no-one ever talked about European dreams” after the weekend thrashing by Torino.

The Blucerchiati were beaten 4-1 in the showdown of the Europa League rivals, their third Serie A game without a win and the second defeat on the bounce.

“No-one ever talked about European dreams,” Osti declared in the mixed zone after the match.

“Today’s defeat gives us cause to reflect, we’ll lick our wounds and immediately start preparing for next week at Roma.

‘Quagliarella illuminates Sampdoria’

Sporting director Carlo Osti says Fabio Quagliarella “illuminates Sampdoria like the Lanterna illuminates Genoa”.

The veteran set up two goals in Monday’s win over Spal, and scored 19 Serie A goals last season.

“He illuminates Sampdoria like the Lanterna illuminates Genoa,” Osti said at an event in the city today.

“He’s a great champion, and those who play with him can take advantage of his intelligence.

Osti: 'Quagliarella is immortal'

Sampdoria director of sport Carlo Osti said veteran striker Fabio Quagliarella is “the kind of player who is timeless. He’s immortal.”

The Blucerchiati caused a big upset by thrashing Napoli 3-0, including a remarkable back-heel flick goal from Quagliarella.

“Fabio is a great champion the kind of player who is timeless,” Osti told Sky Sport Italia.

“He is immortal. We are very happy to have him at Samp and hope he can stay with us as long as possible.

‘Torreira and Praet have clauses’

Sampdoria’s sporting director confirms clubs interested in Dennis Praet and Lucas Torreira will have to pay their respective release clauses.

Both have been linked with Napoli this summer, while Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund are also thought to be keen on Torreira.

“Torreira has a €25m release clause, everyone knows that,” Carlo Osti shrugged, speaking to Rai Sport.

Sampdoria to keep directors

Sampdoria have agreed to extend the contracts of directors Carlo Osti and Daniele Pradè, claim Sky Sport Italia.

The Blucerchiati missed out on the Europa League places following a 2-0 home defeat to Napoli.

While Coach Marco Giampaolo’s future is up in the air, it looks as if they will continue to build on their club infrastructure.

It’s reported a deal has been reached to extend the current contracts of both director of sport Osti and technical director Pradè.

Samp: Quag, retire here!

Sampdoria are hopeful that Fabio Quagliarella will retire at the club after he won a prestigious fan award on Tuesday evening.

Quagliarella won the 34th edition of the ‘Rete d’Argento’, given to Samp’s best player of the past season, the veteran goalscorer following in the footsteps of Blucerchiati legends such as Graeme Souness, Roberto Mancini, Gianluca Vialli and Gianluca Pagliuca.

“Fabio’s a very polite man and a leader in the dressing room,” remarked sporting director Carlo Osti.

Sampdoria’s sporting director asserts Lucas Torreira will stay put in January, “even if everyone’s already asking me about him.”

Quagliarella returns to Napoli?

Fabio Quagliarella could return to his hometown club Napoli in January, but Sampdoria insist the veteran striker is “going nowhere.”

The Partenopei lost Arkadiusz Milik to a torn ACL in September and are seeking valid alternatives for their front three to allow more squad rotation.
