Manolas laughs off Messi feud reports

Napoli defender Kostas Manolas hit out at Spanish media, who suggested Lionel Messi refused to shake his hand after the Barcelona victory, showing it was the referee.

The incident occurred at the final whistle of last night’s Champions League Round of 16 clash at Camp Nou, which ended 3-1 to the Blaugrana.

A clip from the post-match salutes showed Messi hugging and shaking hands with various teammates and opponents, before waving his finger in a ‘no’ gesture at someone just off camera.

Greece international Kostas Manolas has claimed Napoli must stop Lionel Messi ‘as a team’ when the Partenopei travel to Barcelona on Saturday.

The former Roma defender was on the scoresheet when the Giallorossi famously eliminated the Blaugrana from the competition in 2017-18, and he revealed Francesco Totti encouraged him to do it again.

“I met Totti and he told me: ‘Courage Kostas, try again’,” Manolas told La Repubblica.

Fabian injured in training

Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz reportedly had to stop during training yesterday and joined Kostas Manolas on the treatment table.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claims the Spaniard has suffered a muscle problem and his conditions will be monitored over the coming days.

The Greek international limped off early during his session yesterday and underwent tests today.

A statement described a Grade II distraction to the semi-membrane in the right thigh muscle.

It remains to be seen how long he’ll be out of action for, but the statement does note “his condition will be evaluated over the coming weeks.”

That would suggest it is not a short-term issue.
